if you were sitting in homer's chair, what exactly would you do?
- OrangeBlack27

You didn't ask me specifically.....

Cant say exactly what I would do, as in naming specific names.....

But this is what MY plan would be for this team. My goal would be to leave the roster basically in tact, while trying to land an FA defenseman with some size or meanness, preferably both (think: Colin White, Greg Zanon, Sheldon Brookbank etc).... And add a bigger defensive specialist winger/forward to ride shotgun with Cooter on the shutdown line. (think: Travis Moen, David Moss, Brandon Prust)

For me this would allow Cooter to access his offensive game a bit more by taking a little bit of the defensive responsibility off his shoulders....small steps.

I would also see if I could get a decent return for Bob, and sign a backup goalie who is more clear in his role AS a backup. If I dont like what Bob will bring, I keep him.

I am not looking to break the bank unless Shea Weber is available. Then I trade almost anyone to get him. But even that has its limits...Giroux and Couturier being those limits.

Exactly? Hard to say exactly without knowing who is available, and what the asking price is. But I personally would not give up either young players, or devote any large amount of Cap space to anything but for a top defenseman.

i mostly agree, though i'd prefer a more well-rounded dman and would lean to puck-mover moreso than bruiser. wouldn't mind if the defensive forward they bring in is a center, too.

With 20 million trade scenarios getting thrown around I figured that was the most sure fired way to induce vomiting.
For a penance I will go home and drink insanely cold beers and melt on my front deck. Maybe even sit in the dogs pool.

Me neither in terms of the forward. I just want a guy who is primarily a defensive specialist. Center, LW, RW...doesn't matter.

As for the defense, I felt like we lacked some sandpaper after Pronger went down, and even with the addition of Grossmann. Now if Coburn and Mezzy played a more consistent physical game I would go along for sure. But I don't see that in either of their games consistently enough especially for their size.

That is just an opinion of one guy.

i hear you, i'd just be concerned if we signed one of the guys you mentioned, we'd never get the puck out of our end when they're on the ice.

Lets ask the Cop. Is it illegal to drink and drive, or drink too much and drive? Do you ever go out and have a beer or 2 at a resturant and then drive home?

Hopefully the trickle down effect would be better overall team defense.

It's not about a player being replaceable. Any player can be replaced. Many overrate Ryan as a player. And you don't overpay for a player in a trade just because the players you're giving up are replaceable. And I see no reason why you couldn't have JVR and Ryan on the team at the same time.
- MJL

Maybe you're cool with having them both on your team chewing up $9.3M in cap space. That's too much money for two "supposed" first line wingers that play essentially the same style imo.

I personally don't think Ryan is overrated. And when looking at making any kind of a deal such as this it's always about including replaceable players.

While I agree a top defenseman should be our number 1 "get", I also wouldn't mind "chipping up" some of our depth offense for a top offensive guy. If not Ryan, then Parise, and finally Nash. As long as its not too costly...

Thats all dependant on how much alcohol you can tolerate. Bottom line is, if your driving when your drunk, you are risking the lives of everyone eles on the road. It also depends on how much food you ate and how quickly you drank the beers.

understood, we just have differing views on how to get there, though i'm sure we both agree that significant improvement in the defensive play/awareness from our forwards will go a long way towards that, even if we don't add a dman this summer.

I agree with everything you said. People were giving me a hard time yesterday, saying if you have 1 drink you shouldnt drive at all.
