I don't think Anaheim would want anything to do with jvr. He has a worse contract. (smaller cap hit but larger term which is a problem for small market clubs). A worse player playing the same roll? Not sure why interest would be there |

Anaheim needs defensive help right? What about Voracek and Meszaros, maybe a prospect for Ryan, then you can still trade JVR, and either Read or Simmonds and the 2 firsts for Weber. I know... not likely, but who knows what Homer can do. To replace Meszaros you resign Carle to 5 mil a year, and lets say you sign Weber for a 7 mil cap hit. Can someone run these numbers to see if it would work?

Anahiem does not want to take ant salary back. They are gearing up to resign Getzlaf and Perry. They want picks and/or prospects or young players on entry level deals.
JVR is the exact opposite to what they are looking to pick up. His salary is within $1m. of Ryan's contract.

I know everyone is wondering why the Flyers would be aggressively pursuing Nash or be willing to even think about trading a boat load of youth and talent for Bobby Ryan when team needs dictate a big time franchise defenseman. I think the answer may be more simple than it appears.
Frankly, the fact that the Flyers are looking for a big time forward may tell me that Shea Weber is unavailable at this time and they aren't interested in bring Jagr back with his comments and play at the end of year. The Flyers may feel that because they can't get Weber they'd prefer to add a more "star power" forward that could more than easily slide in Jagr's position with perhaps more production and less injury concerns. Then re-sign Carle and role with hopefully a very talented and HEALTHIER set of defensemen and hopefully better goaltender play and then see if Weber has become available at the deadline or FA next year. Just a possible scenario.
Aside from the cap hit (which I think could be explained away), I wouldn't be devastated if the Flyers obtained Nash as there are no questions of potential and physicality when it comes to him (those that speculate that Nash doesn't hit clearly hasn't watch much of the Jackets) and frankly I'm willing to move Bob in favor of a more experienced back up tender.

So the Flyers need to upgrade their blueline and if they can't they'll just upgrade a position which is already talented and deep? This is like adding another kitchen to your house when you need another bathroom. |

Still believe the Flyers should find a #1 dman instead of pursuing a top 6 forward. |

Thank you, your name is taken off the troll list and added to valued guest for the day
Edit: In addition I think if the right deal can't be struck for said #1 dman the Flyers should wait for the deadline. Players become available every season and by then who knows what could be happening with the weber situation. |

NHL goal scorers and creative offensive players hit their peak performance in the 23 to 27 year old age range, sometimes younger. More and more teams are giving the big bucks to the young guns like Giroux, Stamkos, Myers, Doughty and Karlsson in anticipation of peak performance. Why would a team want to pay Ryan more money after he hits age 29 and is past peak performance? Couturier and others will likely be looking for elite money right when Ryan becomes available as a UFA. This is the new math that will become even more sharply practiced under the next CBA. |
