If we'd be able to get either nash or Ryan without giving up Couts, Schenn, Voracek or Read, i'd poop my pants.
Highly unlikely, but anything is possible.
JVR, Gustafsson, AHL FW, 1st for Ryan. |

So the Flyers need to upgrade their blueline and if they can't they'll just upgrade a position which is already talented and deep? This is like adding another kitchen to your house when you need another bathroom. - JoeRussomanno
I don't think that's the case at all. The Flyers have a need to replace Pronger, but they theoretically have 6 top 4 defenseman.
Timonen Carle
Grossmann Coburn
Mezzy Gusty/Bourdon
We all seem to forget that this was an extremely injured corps last year with Timmo being banged up, Carle needing surgery, Mezzy out, Bourdon out, Lilja out for a while, Grossmann missing time. I'm not so sure that the team necessarily is in DIRE needs of a defenseman and besides Weber who is out there? You're going to trade a ton for Erik Johnson. Is Garrison all that spectacular to pay 4 mill to? J-Bo? I mean aside from Weber there isn't anyone out there worth destroying this team for. Trading JVR and Bob and a 1st rounder (20th this year or hopefully later next year) isn't destroying this team.
All I'm saying is that I think Homer is looking at a chance to add a fantastic first line winger that has been begging for a playmaking center to reach his full potential because he simply can't add RIGHT NOW the defenseman this team needs and the rest of the options are no better and in most cases worse than what the Flyers already have. It isn't bad thinking IMHO. |

I'm not going to be on here much as I am heading to Bobby Ryan's grandmother's house to camp out. I'll share what news I can when I arrive. Thankfully, she lives in my town around the corner from my mom-in-law's.

Coburn is a beast.
Similar to Giroux, you need to give him the #1 role and let fate take its course. |

Apparently Anahiem does not want to take back any salary. Flyers will need another team with picks and prospects to be able to do a deal.

I thought Coburn was fantastic in the playoffs. I think if you are the Flyers you look strictly for a #1 and if you don't get it, you improve the team in other ways. We have 5 strong complimentary defensemen. If you can't get Weber improve the team in other ways and if that's Rick Nash or Bobby Ryan you do it. |

A top line of Ryan/Giroux/Simmonds would be a true top line. vanRiemsdyk won't get you back Bobby Ryan. Anahiem is very deep on the wing. They'd probably be very interested in a guy like Schenn and a young defenseman like Bourdon. Read, Schenn and Bourdon could get it done, but I'm not opposed to offering Schenn, JVR and Bourdon for him either. Obviously a number one defenseman is the team's biggest need right now and we would all prefer to put together one of those packages for one, but the market for defenseman is very thin this offseason. There is only one Ryan Suter and we'd all love to give him a 10 year deal. I'd love to see Dinnis Wideman in orange and black too. And Nashville most likely isn't trading Weber after most likely losing Suter. Bryce Salvador isn't worth the money he's going to demand. I wouldn't mind Jay Boumesteer, but is he worth the cap hit and the assets they have to offer to get him? Probably not. Something has to be done about the Flyers undersized and below average defense. That's for sure. But the market simply isn't a huge one this offseason and if Holmgren can't land Suter or Wideman or somebody else, by all means go get Bobby Ryan. The guy would be an absolute stud in Philly and playing with Giroux would put him at 40 plus goals a season. Look at what G did for Hartnell. Get it done Holmgren. |

Boruk is clueless. If Weber doesn't want to play in Nashville, why would he sign an Offer Sheet? |

I can't imagine they would do JVR straight up anyway.
Give them Read, Simmonds, and Gusty. Dear lord I'll take that deal. |

If you're talking Nash, it is bad thinking, because it strangles your cap which inhibits your ability to maintain depth. We should know by now that any player is a hit away from calling it a career. You need a roster that is deep. To get Nash you're going to have to give up the minimum of two roster players.
Scoring isn't an issue for the flyers, it's playing responsibly for 200 feet of ice.
I've been adamant about the folly of pursuing JBo, Garrison I'd be willing to pursue yes, it's a risky move but I think he'll still be able to thrive here. Suter you're going to have to almost double what you'd have to pay Garrison (seemingly) and finally Weber, if the deal is right then yes—defenseman are worth much more than forwards.
Overpaying for forwards now would be fool's gold.

Not sure I would give up Schenn for Bobby Ryan. The others are minor IMO.
Interesting trade. Don't think I would do it, but not bad.
