Really when their contracts are up they won't be due for raises that if the Flyers take on a contract like Nash's they might not be able to handout said raises to all or some of those players? - JoeRussomanno
Isn't that a problem numerous teams come up against if they draft well/make good trades? (ie. Blackhawks a couple years ago or Pittsburgh this year with Staal)? I think that's a "problem" you deal with when the time comes. Keep your best guys and move what you have to for good assets. |

If he actually won a cup he'd probably be the most beloved player in Philly sports I have no doubt about that. |

That's fine but in the case of Nash how is adding to an abundance fixing a weakness? This is like telling a friend not to put 5k dollar rims on his 2k dollar car when he needs to get a bigger house for his family. |

Schenn, Read, and Bourdon for Ryan? I wouldn't pay that steep a price. - PLindbergh31
Bourdon is a 5-6 D man. Read could easily take a step back next season. Schenn is a gamer for sure, but you gotta give to get. I'd have no problem making that deal IF I knew that JVR was going to be healthy the entire season. |

Even if Read takes a step back, he's a cap friendly 2-way forward that can chip in at least 15-20 goals. Schenn if healthy is going to score 20 this year, and Bourdon can develop into a solid third pairing guy. I wouldn't make that deal for Ryan. Ryan is a very good player, but he's streaky. |

I agree for the most part about Nash. I was just making the point that being potentially unable to give out raises in a couple years to players who hypothetically may earn those raises isn't a good enough reason to not land a big contract via trade that helps your team. |

The biggest thing, I think anyway, is that the Flyers brass wants to pair Giroux with a "Stud" and thats why I think they are trying to go after Nash and maybe even Ryan. Thia is all according to the trade speculation. |

I hear you Mook. Don't you think it's time for JVR to step up and become that perennial 30 goal scorer power forward? |

i can see that...instead of going through growing pains with your full roster at least you have a solid first line... |

it's not really helping the team if you add Nash. You have to deplete the depth you have which is a strength. Then you're doing nothing and I mean NOTHING towards improving the team's defensive chemistry furthermore your adding a goal-scorer when scoring goals isn't a problem for it. The Flyers need to add a defenseman, they need a puck mover who can breakout against an aggressive forecheck and get pucks on net from the point. Not just do it but do it really well. Add nash and get used to being bounced out by teams like NJ and Boston, then in a few years get ready for two years of being the north atlantic version of Tampa.
Right now the Flyers are in a position to do what the Kings did this year, add a piece at the deadline if need be or when the opportunity is right i.e inexpensively. |
