story on twitter, trying to find it...he said something like being happy to be back in canada, sharing some wine with Canadien friends.

Then he corrected the word, saying that he would never share his wine with the Canadiens.

fine, but I still think he was more "worthy" than Max, just for taking a bad hit and eventually coming back....big whoop, happens all the time. They could have picked someone better than both, if anything.

I don't usually quote Cox, but the man speaks the truth here:

Ottawa has locked down Karlsson, and while the Leafs contractually have two more years before they need to worry about Gardiner, they also need to make sure he stays a Leaf, as opposed to be parcelled off in some flight of fancy for a veteran goalie or an established scorer.

In fact, Gardiner's college defence partner, Justin Schultz, is an unsigned Anaheim draft pick who will be unrestricted in a matter of days, and the Leafs will be among a horde of teams in their pitching hard. It's a good example of the overall approach the Leafs need to take. Rather than focussing on figuring out how to get this young team into the post-season, they need to find ways to add more young players to the stock of youngsters they already own. In other words, worry about the process of building a really good team rather than the result of getting into the post-season.

That approach will provide more satisfying results over a longer period.

Yeah, looking at the list of previous winners and be there in the company of Gretzky and Co. must be shameful.

SHAMEFUL!

I have no doubt it is elite company..maybe what it also proves is that players don't have to be the most physically aggressive two-way forwards to be important contributors to teams.

lets just say they are both deserving but unfortunately there is only one trophy.... but.. they both came back to continue their careers and that means everybody wins

That's true, but I guess within the hockey community, there'a a general belief that being more engaged in the defensive side of hockey will usually lead to more penalty minutes by nature of the increased contact that occurs. Therefore a Lady Byng-winner can sort of be looked at as the anti-Selke-winner. I don't care for the award myself, really, but I could see why the Lady Byng would be an award players would prefer not to win.
- p_zub

Dastyuk is routinely nominated for both the Byng and the Selke...

EXACTLY. i hate Cox but he's right on the money with this...

this is what always happens with the leafs.. they run with some youth.. and just as they begin to gel and become something decent they are all traded or moved to make room for veteran guys on the tail end of their careers ion some stupid attempt to be competitive in the post season

and it never works.... ever.

steve sullivan.. we let him go unprotected in the waiver draft and protected guys like hogland.. too young... not part of the current picture steve sullivan.. the same steve sullivan who is still playing and has 730 career points

It's basically what Burke's been doing. He's overestimated the team on a few occasions, but his overall strategy is the same: keep on acquiring talent. It's exactly what he needs to be doing, once you have enough talent, then you can worry about making the moves to get to the playoffs, and go far, but you're not gonna get anywhere by making holes to fill others.

Lupul was a guy selected high in the draft, had problems and because of said problems wasnt getting ice time, he then had serious surgeries, came back and wasnt the same...almost considered quitting. He kept fighting, kept working hard, was traded to Toronto, still on meds/iv's and worked his butt off to post 66pts in 67games....Max jsut got drilled and was walking around a few days later.

EBERLE WAS ROBBED.

No, he wasn't. I think everyone expected Campbell to get it.
