Why not trade down for galchenyuk and attempt to get a serviceable top 4 dman that may be a little over paid? IMO a big centre would be great for the oil, the trade ganger for the 8th to try and get reinheart? Even if you just take galy first, getting another top end pick to get a d by trading ganger would mean creating that void but filling it with galy, no? |

Even if that happened though, unless the guy was NHL ready right away, how would that advance Edmonton that much? I'm under the impression they want to get back to the playoffs sooner rather than later. - S Kaspar Rollins
I agree, and when you start talking about finding a specific guy to fill a specific need, well either you're creating a hole at centre to fill a need on D, or drafting a guy like Grigs, who despite his size isn't all that physical and doesn't play defensive hockey that well (i.e. isn't a suitable 2nd line centre for us) AND we still have a hole on D.
I definitely want to keep Gagner. |

If you sort that list of "8ths" by PPG, the two bottom guys are Alexandre Picard &
Pascal Leclaire.
Both drafted by Scott Howson's predecessor in Columbus.
Now, Leclaire is a goalie.
But still. it shows the uphill climb Howson faced as GM of the Blue Jackets. |

Am I supposed to know who that is? Also we should trade our first overall for torontos first and phaneuf, trade Gagner for J. Staal straight up and trade Horcoff and Belanger for JayBo, discuss. |

WTF is the NHL draft bringing down twitter???
NM... its back up for now:
Mark Spector Sports @SportsnetSpec
Bobby Ryan's availability from Anaheim won't help CBJ to deal Nash. A less expensive option.
Mark Spector Sports @SportsnetSpec
Howson: "No hurry to trade Nash." Admits, if not dealt by mid-July, likely coming back. He won't be rushed.
Poor (frank)ing columbus...cant get a break... |

I am not sure about the Jbo deal as I doubt we want to do that nor would Calgary.. not both of our best centers... salary dump or not we are not against the cap anyway...
Phuck Phaneuf... dont need or want his poor personality in the drsg room we are getting enough and will have enough with the team we are working on building...
Staal for gags- that will not happen... I know its short term on Staal but they will want something else too.. |

I don't think it's Galchenyuk, if it's a center they take Grigorenko. Just based on what Stu has said. |

8th overall picks, 25 years (+) of crappy players. What a joke. - Zombie
Yep. In the last 30 years, Couturier, Setoguchi, Samsonov, Hatcher, Roenick, Corson and Fuhr are the only 8th overall picks worth mentioning. It's a 23% success rate, I'd rather keep Gagner.

Judging from what was written on oilers nation from an interview with stu they have similar weaknesses in consistency. He said grigs may be a no 1 centre depending on the team. Id personally stay away from grigs. Have you read something somewhere else? |
