I was actually thinking along the same lines too. They get a bona fide scorer now in Ryan and a future franchise dman from the draft.

For sure. The pressure will be on for him to score 30 this season. It is the good kind of pressure. JVR, if his playoff performance from a year ago is any indication, has at least shown me can respond to pressure like that.

I'm rooting for him to stay. I want him to be our player.

maybe they see what they believe is a franchise player that slipped by everyone at the top. maybe he takes a year before he gets here, but why hang onto, say, meszaros, just because you have to wait an extra year for someone that could be a perennial all-star?

In the NHL you can find better defenseman later then earlier in the draft. Plenty of the elite/top guys on defense were not selecting in the Top 10.

if it's a win in the long run, i have no problem with picking up an asset that might not be ready to contribute next year

In the NHL you can find better defenseman later then earlier in the draft. Plenty of the elite/top guys on defense were not selecting in the Top 10.
