These fans of other teams coming in here and knowing substantially more about our own team and its inner workings...wow, it's really depressing. I thought for sure I was an informed NJ Devil fan. How sad to find out this isn't so!
And to come to learn that Lou Lams and Wade Arnott are liars?! And Todd Cordell uses no factual information in his blogs and is nothing more than a speculator and charlatan?!
But the fans of other teams, they are NOT! They are the shepherds of truth! Ask them fellow Devils fans! For they obviously know more about NJ, the Devils, and the NHL than our lowly fan base could ever even dream to learn!
Wow. My world has come crashing down. I can't wait to see which team Zachary Justin Parise will play for next season. It's sure to be one of those "other" teams that also happen to have half of his childhood friends on their roster.
Clearly NJ is a horrific franchise and no one would ever want to play there.
They never make the playoffs.
Have never won a Cup.
Have no history whatsoever to suggest they are competent, and above all, have not been to a Stanley Cup Final in recent memory.
Truly truly sad to see the great Zachary Justin Parise move on to "greener" fields.
No rumor is correct if it involves Zach staying in NJ, it just simply can't be! Don't believe me? Ask anyone but a NJ fan! We know nothing!
Oh the humanity!!!! - FLdevilsFAN
Excuse me, sir. You appear to be trying too hard. |

You seem to be taking this discussion a bit too personal. I'm guessing because you've used Zach's full name you must be in the know regarding his future endeavors.
Try to stay calm, I think theres still a chance he may resign with your favorite team. However, being a NJ fan doesn't necessarily mean you know anymore than any of us apparent "know it alls" on this message board.... |

you couldn't be further from the truth on all accounts, but you're clearly a wiser individual, so I will concede so as to avoid further humiliation. Please forgive me. I am but only a lowly NJ fan.
Zach is as good as gone and NJ is a horrible franchise and team! Kudos! |

This is true! It is the same logic the amazing "fans of other teams" use! You're finally catching on!
For example:
I used to know a girl who blew Duchene in high school, he can't wait to get out of that wretched hellhole Colorado! He's gone! Kiss him goodbye! |

First off, NJ is a very nice place. There are bad areas, but every state has bad areas. Second, Lou never talks contracts during a season. They have plenty of time, if Parise is serious about wanting to stay, to get a deal done. Avs fans need to calm down a little bit. A rumor starts and immediately you guys think Parise is on his way. If he wants a contender, I don't think the Avs would be his first choice of teams with the list of teams who could offer him a nice package. Even as a Rangers fan, I hope he stays. Makes the rivalry better and more exciting. A rivalry is only good and respectable if both teams can compete with each other. I'd rather see the Rangers beat the Devils with a solid team rather a bad one. Devils fans were blessed by the Rangers having a bad team and no goaltending for so long, now that both teams are even it has been a different story hasn't it Devils fans? Much more exciting to watch now that you don't know who is going to win beforehand. |

Now regarding the situation between #NJDevils and Parise: Lou is trying HARD to the $$ 2 keep Parise. They got creative on Kovy's contract but unlikely they'll strike deal with Parise. Expected to test market July1 - flyerscup2011
They haven't even talked yet. How would the supposed "insider" know this? |

Parise will not sign anywhere before July 1st. Why would he allow himself to get this close to free agency and not at least see what kind of offers pour in? I'm not saying he absolutely wouldn't re-sign with NJ, but let's face it, anyone in his shoes would be at least a little bit curious about what kind of offers he'll get. - MnGump
THEY HAVEN'T STARTED CONTRACT TALKS YET.
What can't you people understand about this? He isn't letting himself get this close to FA |

i agree on all points other then you saying you would rather see the rangers beat the devils
its much better for the game and more entertaining for the fans when the teams are close in talent and heart and where the games mean something |

So you're telling me that if Parise knew he wanted to stay in NJ first and foremost that he himself via his agent couldn't initiate contract talks?
I understand full well that talks have not yet commenced, but I think that is in most part due to Parise and his agent wanting to explore FA first and foremost.
That doesn't mean Zach doesn't want to or won't stay in NJ, but think about it, without offers from potential suitors, don't you think the Parise camp really has much less ammo to go into negotiations to see just what NJ is willing to concede to re-sign him?

Dude, relax. Just because I grew up in the same town Zach did, doesn't mean I have a clue personally as to what he's going to do. That's not what I'm implying.
But I do know some pretty credible people around the Wild organization have been talking and it seems the Wild are ready to "sell the farm" so to speak in order to employ Zachs' services.
That being said, Minnesotas' only tie or likely hope of signing him is the fact that he grew up here and IMO, I don't necessarily think it's enough. I mean the guy snubbed the Gophers to go play in NoDak. So I'm not sure the whole home town thing really matters that much to him. I think NJ no doubt probably has the best chance to sign him. But if money has anything to do with securing his future, NJ is going to have to part with some serious coin in order to do so.
I think pretty much any team with a large void in their salary cap could easily say they are going to offer Parise the moon. Doesn't mean they're going to get him. |

What makes you think they haven't talked it that numbers haven't been passed around? People act as if Lou, Zach, and Arnott haven't spoken sin e he signed the 1-yr deal. While thats possible its also highly unlikely.
NJ has $x to give to Parise. Period. Regardless of what other teams offer. The offers from other teams aren't you go to make NJ's offer fluctuate that much. Especially with ownership issue/debt still be refinanced and resolved. It's like having $20 in your wallet and trying to make an offer for an item. In the end, you can't over $20 because that's all you have. Of course he wants to test FA. But, if he wants to stay in NJ as he himself has said countless times, a deal will get done assuming the money is there.
Its not about his friends on other teams. Its not about his home state. It all boils down to the same thing as everything else nowadays. Money. If he wants to get rich, he won't stay in NJ. I'm sure Lou will make him aware of what the most they can offer him is going to be. There's nothing to hide from either side. Things aren't as sinister as some dramatic fans like to make them out to be. As far as Parise's camp waiting it out to force NJ's hand into paying him more: as I just stated, given the financial uncertainty im sure NJ won't have much wiggle room and they will conduct business straightforward and openly as they always have done under Lou. But I'm sure you all knew that already.
If Zach WANTS to stay in NJ there are only two things stopping him: himself and his own wants and desires none of us can profess to know (not a NJ fan, not an LA fan, not a MN fan, no one) & NJ financial/ownership issues. That's it. And if he doesn't want to be in NJ the. I hope he does leave. Who wants a player on their team who doesn't want to be there? For reference, see Langenbaby. [/img] |

Highly doubt he's re-signing there without at least testing the market with it being so close to July 1.
Nobody knows what Parise really wants to do but him. With Brodeur retiring soon and some of the players there aging there is a decent chance that he won't be back. And who really wants to live in NJ??
- J-Dog
North Jersey is part of the New York metro area, a decent amount of the younger players on the Devils live in NYC. Its about a 20 minute ride on the path train from downtown to Newark. Its not all the jersey shore crew, know what you're talking about before you say something dumb. |

If he wanted to stay so bad, why wouldn't he take a hometown discount so that he could stay where he apparently loves?
He could be a Devil for life, and make millions in the process...
10 year $60 mil...
Doesn't seem like he wants to be a Devil that bad, or that he is more concerned about the $$ over the place he "loves" - BoBBeR56
He took a "hometown discount" on his last contract before the arbitration. He deserves to get paid, this could be his last contract negotiation if he winds up with a long term one. you can hope and pray, but as of now I'd put my money on him coming back to Jersey. Better luck landing Luongo lol... Quite a consolation prize, eh? |
