I'd have certain reservations on giving up a ton for Staal. Not only would I worry about being able to re-sign him, but could he fill in a #1 center role? He's used to playing third fiddle behind the two best centers in the game today. Not to say isn't capable, just something I'd be concerned with. It would also force Darcy to move or re assign two of the other three centers. I don't want Roy or Ennis playing 3rd line minutes, and Hodgson needs more ice time to further develop. Could be interesting. - tomt8391
wouldn't he be #2 behind eric? |

I know exactly where that is! I go fishing up to Cheney's point sometimes. Somewhat close. |

As well It should be. That's okay with me. Focus on what's important.

Never been to a brewery. I assume they're just like wineries where it actually cost more to buy direct from the source (??) - Pairo11
their brewery is really nice. looks like any other business on the outside, but their little brewpub is awesome. it's designed and decorated like a ski lodge. when i was there, they were selling "low-fills" of several different beers in 22oz bottles. the low-fills are bottles that are like an inch short of being full. i bought 5 excellent 22oz bottles for $5 a piece. |

The general consensus seems to put Eric at the wing and Jordan playing center. |

Southern Tier Brewing Co is right in Lakewood on Stoneman Circle...
*hint hint* - EricNearBuffalo
LOVE Southern Tier. They have some excellent beers. Phin and Matts is my favorite. But if you want your night to get interesting, start pounding 2xIPA's... |

I actually play golf in the Southern Tier Brewery golf league. I just came back from Maplehurst CC a couple of hours ago. I play with my old man, and a bunch of his friends are in the league. I don't end up paying for a drink all night. It's the best. |

That is true, but your offer was far slanted to Pitt by a wide margin. His value goes dramatically down especially since he has come out and said he will not sign an extension period. I am sure his agent is making it known what his intention will be for next year.
You might see the 8th traded for him at best. - jsam7
He is *apparently* willing to discuss an extension with CAR only...that's why the price goes way up. Otherwise, a team like BUF could very well offer #12+Roy+ |

I just love microbrews but with this damn heat I can't afford them . Going to the 1000 Islands in a week and then ADK Mtns shortly thereafter. I end up taking 4 30 packs of Bud Lite for a week plus several bottles of booze.
Just can't afford to pound microbrews all week .

I actually love just about any Octoberfest beer. Hands down the best I've had is Ellicotville Brewing Company, though. |

Since you only have one viable buyer, I think the effect on price is pretty debatable |

I think I might stop over and get some 'low fills' now. Grab a few 'special' beers for my trip next week.

Not really. Staal is a hugely interesting player who could blossom immensely in CAR. For CAR to risk him either staying in PITT or going elsewhere, possibly getting injured, is the risk...this is a real opportunity for them. PITT could still trade him elsewhere, and I'm sure a team like BUF will have the audacity to overpay and spend all year offering him contracts/etc to keep him there. He'd be 1st line C and have good wingers/team...tough to turn down a contract if the wins come in. |

Used to go up to some cottages near Round Island just outside of Clayton for a week every Summer. Now with kids and everything we got a nice 5th wheel RV and stay on Wellesley Island every July 4th week.
Awesome fun, fishing and time traveling !

Looks like Staal is fed up with palying third fiddle in Pitts.
He showed in the playoffs that he is a top player, but he is not getting the minutes on the ice to get the stats. If he only thinks it will happen for him in Carolina then the Sabres have no chance.....so may be it time to move on, OR
you offer Pittsburgh - Roy and a 2nd pick and say to them "We will take him off your hands", then give him top line status in Buffalo and offer him the 10 year contract that Pittburgh did and waive lots of up front money at him that Carolina does not have....Leave it to him - tell him he can sign at any time until July 1, 2013...you take him on with the knowledge that you might lose him at the end of the year and you take a chance with team chemistry........However, sometimes you take that risk if he is that one of two or three pieces that will get you to the cup.
In the meantime, you develop your draft picks for a year in the background.
Maybe at the end, or at the same time you deal Vanek to Carolina for Eric Staal......and everyone becomes very happy.....Buffalo becomes like Sedins West...the much tougher version!!!!!
PS. Yeah, I had a drink before writing this one! |

The pens wouldn't touch that offer from Buffalo. It's a more attractive offer without Roy. They could use the 4 million in cap space to get more than what Roy brings to the table. Roy is certainly not a 3rd line center. And that's what's needed without Staal. |

Yeah, I don't see it the that way at all.
They know they're the favorites to get him as a UFA now wihtout giving you or anyone else a damn thing, and the risk of him getting injured is yours, he's your asset until he puts on another sweater.
There's no risk if you haven't spent anything, remember. And now if reports are true, he's just basically blown your whole bluff. He won't sign anywhere long term but Carolina. To Carolina, he's just said "trade low or wait a year."
Your leverage is toast. Sorry.
*again, assuming there's a shade if truth to this. |
