As a GM??? Please... he inherited a ducks team that was close to the cup already... In TO what exactly has he done that would make people think he is in high demand??? Maintained status quo and depleted the farm doing it??? Outside of fleecing the flames - most would say not much

Adding the finishing touches to a competative team is a skill. Burke has done that with ANA.
Building up a team's prospects to get them competative is another skill. Burke did that with VAN (Sedins + Kesler)

I just dont understand why a team would not overpay a FA whos looking for a 1-2 year deal instead of acquiring Thomas. I dont get the concept of acquiring a player strictly for their cap hit who you know isn't going to play. |

Rumour has it... Penguins wanted to sign Staal because they had intentions of trading Malkin for a boatload to Toronto.
Trade would include... the 5th this year, their first next year, Gardiner++++
What do you guys think of this???

I highly doubt that's true....but if it were, for argument's sake......I hate the idea of trading Gardiner and the 1sts, but the thought of Malkin's #71 in the blue and white, damn......that kinda makes the libido twitch a little bit. |

Should be the other way around. Lindback is much greater of a prospect than Bobrovski yet only went for an additional 2nd and a 3rd next year. Bobrovski was out in Philly and everyone knew that. Lindback did not HAVE to move from Nashvile. Big difference there |
