Gunner! what you think about the staal trade? i think you robber carolina but what are your thoughts? i love the picks you guys made if that helps
- HAMgerber

As a fan I'll miss Staal a lot, he is terrific. Objectively, it was pretty good value given the situation. Still surprised Carolina gave up that much knowing that Staal is going to sign there. Shero is playing chess right now. More fireworks to come for the Pens in the next week and a half.

Derek Roy is our #3 center. Possibly #4 if Grigorenko makes the team. Great draft so far. Still plenty of time to make trades.
- RayHatesDomi

Its not that the the two drafted guys wont be good someday. I thought we are on a short term plan to get to the cup. Neither guy in my opinion will be nhl ready day one. Ennis # 2 center hodgson #3 which makes Derek Roy uno #1 center.
Carolina just got closer to us by getting a really good nhl player. the capitals picked up a really nice plaYER. Our number one center is openly critical of coach and is still here. My reason for the complaint is not guys picked. Short term does not help a cup run. As for patiants really 40 + years is enough.

Think that buffoon in Toronto, Burkie, might be interested in Roy for some picks? Roy is good "friends" with Timmy... just saying!

Not trying to argue. But Cody points here were not close to a #1.
Ennis has zero size better suited for #2. Which makes Roy #1 defacto.
Its just under Pegs I want more. I want to win.

I think Ennis and Hodgson are both ahead of Roy and Grigorenko will make an impact quicker than you think. Also, this is just day one of the draft. There is still plenty of time to address other needs via trade and free agency

so does every other team in the league. we could make win now moves and still not win. i'm fine with derek for one more season. he isn't that bad, plus his cap hit is manageable.

Not on the ledge I will be at the opener its just such a great oppurtunity with 4 in 44 to get a guy. A big time player. After the draft and the next couple weeks rosters
are close to set. The free agentclass is weak. Today was a big day and we went conservative.

Dang Hodgson a 4th line center, if you want to do that just trade roy.
- Flynox

After tonight, Derek Roy is all but finished as a Buffalo Sabre.

I expect he'll have a fine season in this up comming 'contract year', and make for a fine rent-a-player for somebodys playoff run next season.

I'd hang onto him till the deadline though, and give Ennis, Hodgson, & Grigorenko some time to find their stride. If you can get a first rd pick for Goose, Roy will have value as well!

He is that bad. He openly dislikes lindys style. Not true some teams are in rebuild mode. We have 9-10 nhl def and have no #1 center

His scouting report says he doesn't back down from anyone. 6'3" 200 lbs. Doesn't sound soft to me.
- Pierceme69

I think the Sabres are planning to work these guys in together....maybe eventually the end up on separate lines, but they could end up being a phenomenal rookie line in 2013 with Armia.

Girgensons missed the combines in Toronto and in Buffalo because he had a broken jaw; when he broke his jaw he came back on the next shift and got an assist on a goal. Tough power forward with an incredible work ethic.....he will push Grigorenko (if he needs any kind of pushing after free falling in the draft)....great day.....now we need a couple of trades to bring in a good preferably tough forward and sign a couple of free agents

both picks. Wanted Grigorenko all along can't believe he slipped to us at 12. Girgensons look like dynamite too, great job by our brass tonight.
