Truth is the Penguins were gifted 4 top players. They drafted a couple good players, but they sucked so badly they had a lot of good opportunities.
The tide is turning. Crosby is an egg. Malkin may be better suited for a San Fran lifestyle. Neal and Letang are good but F the rest of the circus clowns in Pitt.
It is Philly and NY that is built for the future. The rest is just conversation. - Daman
Da Man I think your getting ahead of yourself. The Pens are still going to be a very good team in the Eastern Conference. |

Kings take Tomas Hyka at 171 ... with a pick acquired via the Flyers. - Tomahawk
Great example of the difference of opinion between the TV analysts and the NHL scouts.

The odds of him holding out are very slim. That doesn't serve any purpose. For him or the team. - MJL
Neither does having supposedly a team leader who doesn't want to play on the team beneficial either. Look, I just think in the end, a divorce is the amicable solution for both sides. My debate is just how Howson is conducting the auction. It will be interesting to see how this story ends because I'm pretty confident in typing- Rich Nash will not finish out playing under his current contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets. It is just not going to happen. |

Sometimes Da Man turns into Damian. I dont think the future of the league rests with Pitt anymore. They had 2 shots, and took advantage of one
It is now our time. |

Hmm, no I'm not comparing the Red Wings drafting against the Flyers. The point is that analysts don't get everything right, just as GM's don't. So what the analysts think of a player, doesn't mean squat!
I'd like to see the Flyers draft who they think is the right pick, and not choose a player based on his Country of origin.
And as I said previously, compare the Flyers record after the First Round with the rest of the League. And then you'll know if it is weak or not. - MJL
OK, I'll tell you what. If I have some time I will do that for each team in the league later and post. Just picked the Rangers and since 2000 they got Stepan, Hagelin, Ansimov, Dubminsky, Callahan, Tyutin, Prucha, Zdlicky, Dawes and Dominic Moore all after the 1st round. Oh yeah, and some guy named Lundqvist. And a bunch of other serviceable players as well.
But that is just one team. Fair to look at the total picture.
But now I have to go play with my daughter, so I'll check out in a few minutes. |

I agree that a trade is best for both sides. I think a lot is being made about what is read in rumors. Same thing with the Ryan situation and how Murray is handling that. Truth is we don't have anywhere even remotely close to enough information on how Howson is conducting the auction. That's the part that gets me. Fans read speculation and think they know what's going on.

While I agree its our time the Pens are not going to fall off a cliff. They still have a lot of talent and will look to upgrade their defense (which is what killed them last year). |

Here's the easiest thing to do. Simply Google the drafts for the last 5 years or so. And scroll down and look at rounds 2 through 5. And see how many names you see that became NHL regulars. Shouldn't take more then a few minutes.

Lots of Hype-a about Hyka.
for me, meh. Hyka was intriguing, but he's very small, not very strong, and very one-dimensional. Not saying none of this will ever change (well, the small part won't), but he's certainly not the can't miss prospect some people seem to be thinking he is.

Bobby Ryan would like to find some comfort. It's not in Anaheim right now, where Ryan has grown bitter from annual trade rumors that are raging again this summer. Maybe it's in Philadelphia, which Ryan said would "be a very ideal and comfortable place for me."
His father Bob Ryan agreed: "In my mind, the Flyers are the best that there is." |

Maybe we could have traded for Calgary's 14th pick. Buffalo got it by swapping their 21st and their 42nd. Calgary would've placed one slot higher in the first (20) but 3 slots lower in the 2nd (45). |

Translation: They drafted a body type/ athleticism profile. Game is very raw. At least Flyers will have up to 4 years to evaluate him because he's going to play collegiate hockey.
