Translation: They drafted a body type/ athleticism profile. Game is very raw. At least Flyers will have up to 4 years to evaluate him because he's going to play collegiate hockey. - bmeltzer
could they have done this in a later rnd? concerns me to go that far off the board in higher rnds.
Maybe we could have traded for Calgary's 14th pick. Buffalo got it by swapping their 21st and their 42nd. Calgary would've placed one slot higher in the first (20) but 3 slots lower in the 2nd (45). - 77rams
Considering how far Calgary's first round choice was off the radar, I'm assuming they were pretty comfortable he would last #21, so getting the higher second round pick was more beneficial. I do believe Homer was trying to move up in the draft, but what's the old saying "it takes two to tango."
I think Bob was the "big" trade. We don't have any more trading chips really except 3 letters. Hopefully we can get V to accept his tender and then re-sign Jagr. Maybe add a decent dman and backup. See where the chips fall till the TDL.

Voracek isn't going to accept the Qualifying Offer. But I think he'll get signed no problem.
I honestly can't remember the last time a player actually came out and said in the media "if I get traded I want it to be to XXX team." In any sport...
Not sure how it will shake out but you would think this gives the Flyers a serious edge in acquiring Ryan... no?
I'm gunna go ahead and continue to bang the drum regarding a re-signing of Voracek and holding onto JvR. Happy they're both still w/ Philadelphia. - Pixote Andolini

No. The price for him is insanely high. I don't see Holmgren executing that deal.
On another note - I'm pretty content with the Flyers draft selections thus far. Whoever was saying the Flyers have given up on trying to develop defenseman is clearly wrong.

Obviously the Ducks are playing hardball right now because they can right now with FA not open yet. Once free agency opens and more players are available, that price will drop. Especially if Ryan is forcing a trade out of town and wants to go to the Flyers.
I could see JvR and a pick/prospect getting it done. No one is gonna give up JvR and Schenn/Couturier type of package for Ryan, that demand will drop.

True, but aside from his Cherry Hill roots I don't see a need for him at all on this Flyers club. Sure he has 4 seasons of 30+ goals but goal scoring is hardly an issue for Philadelphia. Holmgren made those big splash moves last summer - now let's see what happens staying the course - especially after last season where the rookies as a whole performed beautifully and beyond what most had thought they would.
Simmonds could pot 30 this season. Hartnell could realistically again. Briere, when healthy for the entire year is usually a shoe-in for at least 30. JvR with a full campaign could potentially pot 30 as well as G.
