Adding Bobby Ryan does not restrict you from improving the defense. - Flyers2821
Well, you trade O assets to get him. Maybe Younger guy making less..(I guess if its just JVR and a first it isnt) . You take on hs 5 mil cap hit and then need to add D and the only way I see that happening right now is by trade.. You then have to trade more O assets to get the Dman. I see it as retricting us from doing it. It's a luxury not a need ike D. |

No thanks. 35 year old d-man making 6.66 mill per year? I'll pass. - Flyers2821
Yeah I pass on Boyle. No need to overpay for a player on the downswing of his career. |

I don't agree with any of that.
- JvR is 23, Bobby Ryan is 25... the age is irrelevant in the deal because they are so early in their careers.
- You trade away JvR as an asset but Bobby Ryan is still an asset as well. So your not downgrading your offensive assets by any means... your actually upgrading them.
- JvR is due for a raise next year and will be making 4.25 mill a year, so it's only $850k in additional cap space. Which is not much at all.
The only way it restricts anything is if it's JvR and a first because then you don't have that first to trade in a deal for a d-man.
You are still left with a strong crop of young offensive players and cap space to improve the defense. |

This is assuming JVR and a 1st gets it done. My suspicion is they want and will get more than that. So maybe two young offensive pieces. Then.. if you swing and miss on Suter as a UFA, then you have to trade for one. imagine what it will take for a Weber.. which is my preference.. you will need three pieces I'd say.
Regardless, it's focusing on an area of strength instead of fixing the d. You will likely be no better off in scoring and you may have less depth. Use the O depth to get an impact dman. |

The Flyers aren't going to have to give up two top tier offensive players to get Bobby Ryan. There is clearly tension with Anaheim and Ryan and their asking price is going to drop. It is not focusing on a strength, it is simply making a move to upgrade a position. It is not a move that restricts them at all from going after offense. It simply isn't.
If it takes JvR + Read/Coutirier/Schenn... of course I don't do it. But it isn't going to take that. There are too many good wingers out there and available right now. If the tension is how it seems between Ryan and their front office, it's a situation where Ryan is gonna have to be moved. Also provides the shake up that team has been looking for. They just have the luxury right now to ask for the moon. They aren't gonna get it.
Also, don't overlook the possibility of the Flyers doing something like signing Dennis Wideman and Bryan Allen to improve the defense with two players rather than going out and getting a Shea Weber and depleting the offensive pool we have.
Coburn - Grossman
Timonen-Meszaros
Adding another solid pairing to this mix is definitely a route to go. Probably a more realistic one than acquiring Suter, Weber or Yandle actually. |

There is no guarantee that the price for Ryan is going to drop. And the Flyers are likely going to re-sign Carle.

i think the best part of the draft was pittsburgh trying to adjust their team. that says to me with the way we smoked those punk bitshes in the playoffs, that they're trying to be more defensive, then they trade away arguable their best defensive player for prospects that have no where near his upside. pouliot was a reach at 8, maata slid in the draft, when a player slides, there's normally a good reason (i.e. attitude, work eithic). i think they butchered their team. even if they do get parise they still need like 3 nhl caliber dmen. i really hate the penguins and their fans. i can't wait for them to be completely irrelevant again. |

Okay, so re-sign Carle and sign Wideman. If they swing and miss on Suter that is. To me, moves like that are more realistic than them trading away a huge chunk of the talent on offense to get a Weber or Yandle via trade.
As for Ryan, there is no guarantee but the more tension there is between Ryan and Anaheim the more likely it is he gets moved. As players like Nash, Parise, Semin, Parenteau, Doan are acquired by teams... the demand will drop for Bobby Ryan, which results in the price to acquire him going down.
There is no guarantee, but there is a good chance the asking price drops. |

They'll be fine. If they get parise or suter they've had one hell of an offseason. Sitter their new 3rd line center scored 17 last year with little to no pp time. |

Also if some of the other highly sought after UFA forwards start getting snatched up by other teams and Ryan becomes the last top forward available more teams could be vying for him, keeping his asking price the same or possibly even larger. |

I would not sign Wideman if I was going to re-sign Carle. A team has an option to not trade a player if they don't get the return they want. And after emotions cool and talks are had, there's no reason why Anaheim and Ryan can't move forward with Ryan still a Duck.

he let scuderi and hal gill walk and NEVER replaced them. he inherited a good team chock full of top 5 picks and IMO hasn't done poop to improve the team, actually i think he made it worse. dan bylsma is a piece of vile garbage and they're nothing but a bunch of crybabies and thugs. |

I'd say he has a very good clue about what he's doing, the back to back finals appearances and winning it once says that itself |

any idiot could take a team with crosby malkin staal fleurey etal to the finals. he inherited most of that team and they had very good support players. their support players today are thugs or just plain average hockey players. i really think he took a golden ticket and screwed it up |
