Is it possible JVR doesn't have much trade value? This deal looks like one young underachiever for another. And maybe Laviolette wants three balanced D pairs one offensive D and one defensive D Timonen-Coburn, Carle-Grossman, and Meszaros-Schenn. Maybe Bourdon and Gustafsson aren't viewed as highly either. |

Im with you. Though I wonder what the Ducks will do now...........#awkward - aosplayo
*total speculation here *source= me.
I would have no doubt homer made a call to them they said JVR+ Homer looked at his roster and said, PFFT I'm not dealing my best movable piece laterally when I need Blue-line help. tells anaheim, I got this kid Nick cousins you want him, send me Ryan otherwise have a nice summer. |

They in all likeliehood got the better player BUT the Flyers filled a need so, that kind of evens it out. - JoeRussomanno
Agree the Flyers have a need on D. Just not sure Schenn fills it. Felt they need puck mover PP QB type more than someone like Schenn with limited offensive upside.
I will admit that I only watch a handful of Leafs games a year, so I probably don't have the best basis for evaluating Luke's play. But do we think he even makes our top 4 if everyone is healthy (and we re-sign Carle)? Is he better than Coburn, Grossman, Kimmo, Carle, or Meszaros? Based on the small sample size I've seen I don't think so. I hope I'm wrong. |

Or maybe it is just a need for a need. JvR could end up being great but Schenn brings a physical presence on defense that has been missing on this team since Pronger got injured. |

I'm going with b.... I think there was a tiff over his hip situation - Philly1980
i'd guess a) personally. they must think that luke will ultimately be more than just a #4 d-man |

Wow. I am really gonna be the smart one here??
I have faith in homer. All you guys wrre expecting too much from JVR, an he had struggled here. Whether u like it or not, his trade value isnt much.
As for the L. Schenn haters, hich seems to be many. 2 words: sophomore slump. Go see Drew Doughty plz. Kings fans were calling for hos head, he sucks, trade him. Look what happened.
I have a great (frank)ing feeling the Schenns will be ecstatic and go on to have fantastic seasons.
So screw you haters! Learn something about god damned hockey plz. Homer is the man. When has he EVER lost a trade other than Gagne? |

Thing is we don't know what we are getting from Timmonen,
Anyone think it's possible we see Suter and Carle in O&B now? |

Need to stop looking at the deal like they are done re-vamping their defense. They asolutely still could get a puck moving dman.
After all, they just SAVED cap space with this move. They will absolutely be in on the Ryan Suter sweepstakes. |

Yea I don't think the doors closed on Ryan, but in my opinion there is noway they move schenn or coots. Anaheim is in the worst situation a team can be with a disgruntled player. I mean in the end if they dont move Ryan, he'll play likely and be a trooper, but man what a distraction. |

I think when you have Coburn, Grossmann, And Schenn, they're all about the same. Especially the latter two. There's going to be periods where one is playing well and the other isn't. And I think there's going to be times where one of them is drawing the ire of the fans.

I don't see how it opens up a hole for a second pairing D man. - MJL Well, if LS played on the sencond pairing in TO and was traded, TO needs to replace him. The one of speculated factors that will determine where Shulz signs is guaranteed top 4 mins. No clue how true it is. LS departure allows Shulz to fill the void. Just my opinion based on the speculation put forward. |

He's definitely not better than those guys but I think we are doing LS a BIG disservice to say he's reached his potential already.
Also I think they still add a piece on D and possibly another forward. |

Listen, I think your premise is correct. Schenn is a nice young defenseman. But if were talking about learning something about Hockey. I hope your not comparing Schenn to Doughty.

The Flyers have liked Ryan for a while now. With Ryan coming out and saying he wants to be traded to Philly... you better believe the Flyers will be on the phone trying to acquire him right up to the day he gets traded. Just a matter of if they can pull it off at this point.
Lets just hope his value drops! |

While I agree with you in your assesment I don't think it's cool with some of the language you're using. people have a right to their opinions. Rather just say it to you then push the cop-out button.

So the Flyers just traded a # 2 overall draft pick, and a potential 30+ goal scorer for a player similar to Coburn or Grossmann? Sounds like a great trade. |
