He called it? This trade has been rumored since the TDL... - Flyers2821
Yup. He was right that JvR was going. I didn't think the Flyers would make this deal. |

It is funny how people who don't even watch Luke Schenn play are writing this off as being a completely horrible trade. Cracks me up. - Flyers2821
not only have I've seen him play many times, I also listen to TOR media discuss what a limited ceiling this guy has.
TOR commentator bill watters was apoplectic discussing the possibility of getting JVR for schenn at the TDL last yr. he said you simply don't get a dynamic talent like JVR for a guy witha clear ceiling as a 2nd pairing stay-at-home guy. he was right....

With all do respect, everyone including JvR knew he was going to be traded... Eskin wasnt ahead of anyone on anything this time. |

Yet two years ago they were raving about how he was absolutely untouchable and untradable. |

I fully expected JvR to be traded this offseason. Absolutely. It was just a matter of when and for who.
And how is Eskin saying it not a rumor but everyone else saying it makes it a rumor? |

good trade, eskin said there was bad blood because the team wanted him to get surgery and he wanted to yoga himself back to health.
luke has the same snarl as a weber and pronger, just has not developed the smarts of the game yet, i think he will, the heart and fire is obvious in both schenns, i love it!
now we need a top winger-hopefully we have something left to trade for ryan. |

Surprised at the trade, and need more time to analyze. I think that, even though JVR was the 2nd pick and will most likely become a 30 goals scorer.. we needed to pay a bit more for Schenn to address a need. Our O was fine last year even though JVR didn't play much. Now we have a decent D corps if we re sign Carle.
Schenn is 22 and a big hitter.. hopefully Timo can teach him to be better positionally. That's the issue I have seen with Schenn as I have seen him a lot.. We get forced to watch a lot of Laffs games here. I wonder who he gets paired with.
Anyways, pretty happy. Get a solid backup.. isten to calls about other dmen if the phone rings, but this is a good start. the whole Ryan or nash talk is nuts imo even though I'd love to see Ryan with Roo. |

two years ago, he was a 20 year old with one year of experience under his belt. Just like people didn't want to see schenn traded away in a package for ryan/nash.
Two years later, he's been very streaky. Its either a learning curve, or thats just what he will be. If schenn does the same thing for the next two years, you might hear people starting to talk about trading him in 2014 as well.
JVR could be very good. Then again he could be an olli jokinen type player |

Yea I do. Flyers desperately needed a big physical d-man and they got him. I was never a big JvR fan either so I like the deal. |

not really. he's had his struggles and it's clear that he is not an offensive threat or anything like a Scott Stevens that people thought was possible. that was unfair of course.
he's a "nice player" , but we needed more that him coming back. pwr forwards often take time and this move could haunt the flyers much like the leclair move burned MTL. more to the point, we still need a puck mover and a key asset is gone for far less than max value. |

Yes really. He was 100% considered an untouchable player prior to struggling last season.
Clearly something is up with JvR that his value is not what everyone in here expected it to be. The fact that Schenn was the return for him AND it was rumored that the Ducks wanted JvR and Schenn/Couturier for Ryan.
JvR's value was not anything close to what you guys think it was. I am willing to bet the 6 year deal he has with a lot of question marks about him had something to do with it. |

Yea I wonder if Carle is still a priority? They are able to do whatever they want now, well realistically they can target any one player. I think |

we don't have the assets to trade for Ryan or anybody significant unless we want to part w/ couts or schenn...as much as anything, that's why the JVR trade hurts. |

Your trying to tell me the back end was not lacking physicality? It absolutely has. It has been missing the physical crease clearing play of Chris Pronger tremendously. |

I will wait and see what the rest of the offseason brings before ruling this trade good or bad, but there's one thing I have to pose to the masses. I liked JVR and saw big potential, but I also see big potential in L. Schenn.
If you're Giroux, Couturier, Schenn, Voracek (hopefully), Simmonds, etc and upper mgmt comes to your agent about long term deal, how do you approach it now?
As much as I've lauded Holmgren for Richards + Carter trade value return, can't mask the fact that the organization will create a stigma w/ players if this trend continues. |

Matt Carle not going anywhere. Will likely finish deal in days and be announced on July 1. Holmgren wants him, Carle wants to stay. #Flyers
