Fair question, but I think it has to do with not wanting more question mark goalies.

For a not so deep draft Burke did well, Reilly and Forsberg were my guesses for the 5th, in the end Burke made the right call! Finn was a steal as well.. and like I said before the draft, good chance of a D prospect at 5th as it adds more to the defensive cupboard for the Leafs so they can acquire a top 6 forward. Burke's plan isn't as obvious as you all think, there's some imagination brewing and I can't wait to see it unfold, don't worry Leaf fans Burke and team know what their doing and haters keep hating, it keeps us hungry and motivated to improve!

He was top line on a team that very nearly won the cup, and top scorer for them for a couple of seasons, I believe. He was definitely not an "average second liner". He was one of their best players of that era.

Wasn't crazy about going with a Dman at no. 5, however, I do like them going with a D @ 35 as the other 2 I was hoping for(Danske, Collberg) at that spot were gone, and this guy could have gone as high as 20th. He's a local boy too.

Personally I hadn't looked closely at Morgan Reilly before this draft. From what I've read he could be the most offensively skilled PMD in this draft. Why some people are ready to immolate themselves in front of the ACC because of that mystifies me somewhat.

For all we know Reilly could be the Karlsson of this draft but we didn't let him slip to 15th like Karlsson did. A centre was not going to play for us this year, or maybe next year either, unless we rushed him, in which case people would be crying about rushing the player.

The Leafs are building major strength in their blueline prospects, that's not a bad thing. For all we know Reilly actually IS a top five pick, nobody knows anything yet.
