We can go over by 10% in the offseason right?? So that 11.5ish mil number Bill showed us earlier is really about 12.5ish, no?? - Giroux_Is_God
Well isn't 10% over the cap this: $7,030,000? Because that is 10% of $70,300,000. |

People forget how good Meszaros was when he initially came here. For all that talk about giving JVR another chance after his injuries, why no mention of Mez.
Having a guy on that 3rd pairing that can play those big minutes if need be isn't something to be taken lightly. He has proven he can score goals, be physical and take up important minutes.
I rather keep a guy like that, who hypothetically could be a solid partner for Schenn. Instead of a guy like Lilja, Guss or Bourdon.
Only way I deal away from the back-end if is they are bringing in Suter. - flyer_nutter
Suter is not coming to Philly. The Flyers might be better off going with what they have and signing Parenteau which is what I orginally suggested today. |

Oh I agree, just talking Ryan scenarios
Woudl you rather have Ryan/Gill or Ryan/Garrison
vs Coburn/Jake? - aosplayo
I rather have any situation that involves Coburn staying in Philly.
Just because the Devils made it to the finals with some band-aid piss rag group on D, is no reason to hope the Flyers can do that.
The Flyers, if they want to add to the offense need to do so in FA. Not be giving away more assets on the back end with a team that was horrid defensively.
Bobby Ryan is nice, but is he going to take the minutes of Coburn when the team is down 2 men and Kimmo is gassed? |

I wouldn't trade Coburn. Hes probably their best young defenseman. |

Agree with those that believe Coburn is a deal breaker. He's locked in at $4.5 mil for several years and hitting his prime. It's a weaker team without him. |

On one hand we shouldn't give up on getting Weber until it's impossible to acquire him. Kimmo Timonen's retirement alone should provide the needed cap space. On the other hand, is Suter a number one defenseman in the NHL? Do the Flyers have enough jam on the back end by having Coburn, Schenn, Grossmann and Meszaros already? - Schenn2shine
That if assuming Weber walks.
Also assuming out of all the teams interested Weber chooses Philly. |

Not enough flash. I've never known the Flyers to go after second or even third best. Parenteau isn't a sexy enough name in the NHL. |

If I have to choose. Garrison Ryan. But no lock that I get garrison either
We are so young now that we could maybe part with 2 pieces that are not here now in a package
Or maybe voracek & Simmons for Ryan?
I like both voracek and Simmons. But Ryan is a stud for Giroux and that would give Anaheim the makings of a 2nd line that they do not have |

Weber is a different animal from past UFAs. Everyone wants him. It would be the best for him if he did test the open market. |

"Flash" cost a lot of money. Flyers have other players to take care of also. He is exactly the type of player they need imo. A player who can contribute and has been very good the past two seasons. |

You could add that to the current money they have but they would need to get under before the start of the season I believe. - stveshdy
Right, but remember, Over 4 million of that 7 is legitimate because by the time the season starts Pronger's money won't count.
Hate to do this btw, but this has to be the year Shelley is sent down. The team has absolutely no need for him and that salary. They have potential to add huge pieces and every bit counts. |

All true. (band aid piss rag group on D).
Salvador looks like a Norris defenseman only on that team in that system |

I'd be happy if they could lock up Clemmonson or Marty Biron for back up netminder, resign Carle, and make a play for Parise. If Parise doesn't work, then either go with Jagr again or even a younger guy like PA Parenteau.
I am really against sending Coburn/Mezzy + another top six forward for Bobby Ryan.
It just isn't worth it.
Both Coburn and Mezzy (if healthy) are reliable and can play big minutes against top lines. These kind of defenseman are hard to replace.
Flyers need a lot of depth on D.
With Grossman and Schenn, and resigning Carle they have a very decent top six and still have capable fill ins with Lilja and Bourdon and Gusty.
I really like that.
If they somehow get Parise and a decent back up goalie then this off season has been a home run.
I'm confident Homer will get a decent back up.
And I'd be fine with Jagr for one more season, or possibly Parenteau.
Don't break up the core and give away 2-3 starters for Bobby Ryan right now. |

I would like that gritty big body guy up front. They still need that.
To go along with re-signing Carle and finding a back-up. Also keeping Voracek.
If they do not get that big name (Suter, Parise, etc) I see the success of the upcoming season riding again on the growth of the kids.
Luke Schenn himself, is a young d-man that will have to adjust to a brand new system. I expect real growing pains next year from him. |

So, we have the 10% cushion at 7ish, plus the 11.5ish that Bill mentioned earlier? |

I could say the Flyers could offer Cousins, 1st, and 2nd for Ryan, but first, I don't think the Ducks even consider that deal and secondly, that would mean 5.1 MM for Ryan is coming straight to the Cap. They need to at least move one piece from the roster for Ryan to soften the blow. No one is mentioning this, but could the Flyers be considering moving Timonen to Anaheim and have him join Selanne (most likely) and Koivu, as well as living in beautiful SoCal? - Flyers1218
Maybe but he's got an ntc I think and then we'd still need a 1a dman..maybe then trade for weber and sign suter... Then were talkin..lol hope the cap moves up to 100 mil |

when are they allowed to LTIR pronger? After the first day, or on the first day of the season?
I would think if its the first day of the season, than technically they wouldn't be over the cap by the start of the season. |

Will see what happens but I think Homer's "love" for Ryan will be hard to resist. |
