I would be okay with Doan at 2 years.
If Weber was available Homer wouldnt of traded JvR when he could use him in that deal, imo.
Couturier is going to take on a much bigger role this season with the Flyers. Gaustad would be a nice addition just dont think hes worth that money to play mostly 4th line minutes. - stveshdy
I don't believe this to be true at all. The rumors of JvR for Schenn started back in February. Obviously there was interest from both sides. If any team at any given moment came up with a deal that blew the Preds' socks off, they're pulling the trigger. Maybe not during the regular season but the off season, anything could go. There is no worrying about chemistry at the moment. |

I'd love for this to happen but it worries me.
First and foremost because every other time Briere was tried on the wing he was a hell of a lot less effective. I think he stated one time as well that he prefers the game in the middle.
They need guys on his wing that provide that defensive stability. Thats why I think another physical defensive forward needs to be a priority. Guys like Simmonds, Schenn and Harts at times are bad defensively.
I'd like to see a line-up of something like:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Briere-Talbot
Gaustad-Cooties-Simmonds
Sestito-Wellwood-Read - flyer_nutter
Can Gaustad play wing? If so then it would make sense to get him. However if hes going to be a 4th line center playing limited minutes I dont think he will be worth the money.

I actually would give Doan the years, even though Bill stated he wouldn't. Doan can provide the same guidance Jagr did between now and when he turns 40. I don't see why it's as big an issue to sign Jagr at 40 and worry about Doan turning 40 in 4 years. Unless we're worried about another Pronger situation because of his physical play. If that's the case, I get it, he'll be a above 35 contract. - Schenn2shine
You can't really compare Jagr and Doan... Jagr plays a finesse game, whereas Doan's got some really heavy miles on his tires. He's still productive enough today, but fast forward a couple of years and he could virtually have very little game left in him. |

And they got rid of the wrong defenseman in the cap dump.
I'm sure they wanted to get rid of Martin but they ended up dumping Michalek. - Marc D
Your right on that
I'll bet no one would take Martin |

Hey we differ in opinions. If Weber was available I wouldnt trade JvR when hes probably your best trading chip.
If its true that Couturier and Giroux are untouchables.
I guess they have the option to send out B.Schenn to get Weber. |

You're speaking from an on ice stand point. If Doan's play drifts off tomorrow, he'll still be a very smart checking winger. Doan's play in the playoffs is exactly what any team could use. He gives off leadership that we're missing in Chris Pronger. Fast forward to 4 years from now, Doan still will make himself useful. I'm doubting Jagr was a solids leader this year, I just think the team admired him to the point that they elevated their games. |

Doan at 2 yrs is something I would consider. Not sure Doan would though. |

Not disputing his leadership one bit, I'm sure it would beneficial. The thing to consider is that it's hard to be a team leader if you're struggling on the ice -- just ask Brendan Morrow, Ethan Moreau, Mike Knuble, Mike Komisarek, etc. It's a lot easier to expect/demand more from your teammates if you're contributing and are on the top of your game. When your play is part of the problem... getting on that soapbox isn't as easy. |

If Parise goes to Detroit, I think someone like Holmstrom or Franzon gets moved. |

I suppose we could ask Derian Hatcher, who on 2 bad knees still managed to be effective for us. I don't feel any of the players you've named are half he leader Doan is and some of these players named might not have half the skill either. |

Very possible. I dont see Pitts being able to outbid Detroit for Suter. Plus Detroit is closer to the area in which Suter wants to stay. Also, I believe Semin ends up in Detroit as well.
Parise could end up in Pittsburgh. |

both have cap hits of 8.7M
Crosby with one more yr left, Malkin's current contract has two more seasons.
Also both Orpik (3.7) and Letang(3.5) will need new deals in 2 more seasons. |

I'd be happy if they could lock up Clemmonson or Marty Biron for back up netminder, resign Carle, and make a play for Parise. If Parise doesn't work, then either go with Jagr again or even a younger guy like PA Parenteau.
I am really against sending Coburn/Mezzy + another top six forward for Bobby Ryan.
It just isn't worth it.
Both Coburn and Mezzy (if healthy) are reliable and can play big minutes against top lines. These kind of defenseman are hard to replace.
Flyers need a lot of depth on D.
With Grossman and Schenn, and resigning Carle they have a very decent top six and still have capable fill ins with Lilja and Bourdon and Gusty.
I really like that.
If they somehow get Parise and a decent back up goalie then this off season has been a home run.
I'm confident Homer will get a decent back up.
And I'd be fine with Jagr for one more season, or possibly Parenteau.
Don't break up the core and give away 2-3 starters for Bobby Ryan right now. - Marc D[/quote
Yeah I just want this rumored Ryan crap to go away. Flyers have burned up all their tradable assets. Trading Mez or coburn is just stupid. ESP coburn. If it happens holmgren has serious issues. Mez is better than L schenn

If Coby and Meszy are involved in possible trade conversations, I guess the organization feels comfortable with MAB playing 3rd pair minutes. At 22 years old, I think Bourdon can get better and he did average over 16 minutes of ice time last season. Also, there is organizational depth with Lilja, Gus, Manning, and possibly Lauridsen.
Pretty certain, they will resign Carle. Homer likes to do preemptive strikes when doing deals, so maybe he gets G a scoring winger before July 1st. |

Adding Schenn only to subtract Mez is subtraction by addition. Sometimes I wonder if we're all watching the same team. - hereticpride
yea I don't see the logic in shedding Mez now, that kinda defeats the purpose. |
