It's because of that personal relationship that will always make one wonder whether the Flyers were able to deal objectively here.
Is it in the team's best interest or the managements? - 77rams
Jeez, I was under the impression that they are one and the same. If that's not the case we should just chuck it in. |

IF goes crazy/trade assets for Ryan now, then Yes I'd say he's lost his marbles. What do you suggest he do going forward? - JoeRussomanno
Make this Luce's call. He has no personal ties with Ryan. |

If he trades for Ryan he will have to sign a UFA defenseman who can play on 3rd pairing or go with MAB.
I thought he was going to go with this current group and add a forward from UFA. However, Homer loves Ryan so that changes things. - stveshdy
Why is everyone down on MAB? The organization has been ripped and rightfully so for not taking the time to develop its own young d-men. MAB played pretty well last season and he is looked at as some pylon that isn't even an option on the third pairing.
I just don't understand. |

MAB would be a 3rd pairing player (which I dont mind) if Mez and Voracek are traded for Ryan. I have no idea if thats even enough. Not sure what Anaheim is looking for in return. |

If Homer can't put business before pleasure, then he ain't worth his salt as a GM. We have players on this Roster now, that can step up into Jagr's spot. Schenn and Voracek come to mind and I think Read showed he could do it this year too. Still not sold as everyone else on Wellwood but that's another one. Don't like a line with Simmonds and Hartnell think that's too much of the samething.
Also from what I understand, Ryan isn't the backchecking type and with this draft and recent trade, I'm under the impression the Flyers are trying to build a more defensively aware team. That being the case don't see how adding a non-defensive forward helps the team. Goal scoring wasn't an issue for the flyers it was protecting their own barn. |

It's about leverage. Some think the Flyers have it but I'm not so sure.
Clarke wanted Ryan before he scored his first NHL goal and made no bones about it. Now I'm concerned the wheels are in motion for Homer to overpay and set the team back a few more steps. |

JvR for Schenn does seem to be slightly tilted to Leafs. Not that Schenn is bad, just feel that JvR should have had a bit more value.
Both players will help their new clubs. Schenn has good size, mobility and likes to hit. The trade also opens some cap room so the Flyers could be bigger players in free agency. - Jsaquella
Mobility is one thing Schenn doesn't have. |

Ryan is not a liability in his own end. He plays both ends of the ice. |

Of course, I don't know what the Ducks want either. However, a guy who played in 45 games +4 and played over 16 minutes certainly can be considered a viable third pairing option with a minimal cap hit if the team decides to move someone from the top 6. With the way he is being overlooked, I thought maybe his leg fell off. |

does he kill penalties and win faceoffs? because those are areas we need help in too. I dont want Giroux out there killing penalties taking unnecessary risks to his health. Something that Voracek can do and we'd be losing if we sent him. |

Perhaps, but if it ends up Coburn and Voracek plus for Ryan, I won't be a happy camper and I'll always wonder how much of that deal was objective.

I hear you. I don't think the Flyers have it at all. Ducks will want the best package. Could the Ducks be so p.o.'d at him that they'd send him anywhere but Philly? Not good business. |

well we see eye to eye then. If this kid is making that much noise and all he wants to do is play in Philly then I can't see why we need to shed assets to get him. |

Agreed. I like to see:
Timonen-Schenn
Grossman-Carle
Meszy/Coburn-MAB
This would be assuming that one of Meszy/Coburn is traded... |

okay then do a straight up deal, no need trading multiple pieces for a player we don't NEED. |

Why should the Flyers give up Voracek+ for this guy? Their offense isn't an issue, and they finally have a legitimate top 6 d-corps? |

I would think Meszy would probably be the one to go. Not that I don't like Meszy, but I think the translation for the word meszaros in slovakian dialect is "high and wide". The guy has a strong slap shot, but holy smokes he isn't very accurate with it.
Also, the Coburn/Grossman pairing has a lot of size and very good mobility, I would hope the organization views them as a shut down pairing against other teams' top line. |
