I agree with most of what you are saying. I just don't think they felt they lost much with JVR. We just went through a season without him doing much. If they aren't gonna bring back Jagr then, if they aren't comfortable with what they have, go FA, I don't want to shed anymore assets at this point and keep overpaying for Free agents more than is necessary. Ryan will be a FA the same year Briere's contract comes off the books. If he wants to play for the Flyers that bad, then wait otherwise to me, giving up roster players right now isn't wise. - JoeRussomanno
Basically I just think trading a dman now for Ryan or another forward is counter productive to acquiring Schenn, unless they are looking down the road more than this upcoming season. |

Ryan concedes he'd love playing on a line with Flyers star center Claude Giroux, who finished third in the league in scoring last season with 93 points and added 17 points in 10 postseason games.
"He's an incredible, one-of-a-kind player," Ryan said. "I'm very fortunate where I am with (Anaheim linemates) Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry when we're together, but Claude Giroux has done things to elevate his team to a new level. If I were to come to Philly, I would love to be alongside him." |

It's not a sure thing he'll sign here in 3 years.. He could win a cup with his new team and get very comfortable. I would assume the flyers feel there best chances to win the cup would be in the next 3 years while Timmonen is still productive and Briere and Hartnell are still locked up. I would also assume they want a winger with a scoring touch to play with Grioux, and while Voracek is a damn good player with a lot of potential he is more of a setup man. I would say Gus and or Bourdon could replace Meszy to a respectable extent. While singing Parise would be ideal I would have to say it is most definitely a pipe dream. So i say if you can get Ryan for Voracek and Mezy and a first if need be you do it.. maybe try and get the rights to shultz and pitch a scenario which entices him to sign. - pharcyde
I think you get one more year of timonen. Possibly 1 year deal after that but I question how much he has left in the tank. |

Unless they plan on completely retooling the defense and making another move there, not sure what the point of trading a defenseman for a forward is. |

Sounds like Ryan is trying to force Anaheim's hand here. |

Timmonen is on his last leg and Briere, if you guys wanna keep believing in him be my guest but I think that ship has sailed. The Flyers are in a position to contend for the next ten years with the youth of their corps. If Ryan doesn't want to come here in three years, oh well, there's other players out there and he's not that great I have to shake up my already great roster to get. Bourdon or Gus haven't shown much in that they can replace Meszaros in fact his presence was kind of missed this year. If it wasn't the Flyers wouldn't have rushed him back. IF you get Ryan for that price you're overpaying and that's not conducive to keeping a winning team on the ice. |

IF there is truth to this Ryan stuff and he wants out furthermore only wants to go to Philly, why are we in the position to overpay or even give value, when offense isn't an issue for this team? I'm yet to see a good explanation. |

If there is smoke here, I bet Ana wants Coby Voracek and a 1st. We may be offering Mez instead. Just a guess but Maybe 2 out of the 3 pieces (assuming 3) may be locked but no agreement on final piece. |

Coby was and has been a horse for us, no way do I offer more than him. In fact I better be getting Ryan+ coming back. Defensemen are worth more than forwards. A first round pick oughta be it. If not have nice time finding a team willing to trade for your guy that only wants to play for us.
Ryan is better than Voracek but he's not a world better than him. Furthermore if Voracek takes another step he could be as good, so anything other than a straight up deal is overpaying. |

I dont think its a matter of them needing ryan, I think ryan would add to the offensive talent thats already there, its not going to hurt but only help what they have.. and it he is out there why not take a shot. if they want too much then obviously you dont do the deal ..... I think maybe there are a few options in FA they can go to sure up that 5/6 d spot out there such as Commadore, Rozsival, Wideman, Sarich....... I think they would be foolish if they didnt explore there options.. |

Why should the Flyers give up Voracek+ for this guy? Their offense isn't an issue, and they finally have a legitimate top 6 d-corps? - JoeRussomanno
If they did Voracek, Ford, and 1st I would personally drive Jake to the airport! How do you not do that deal. Bobby Ryan is extremely gifted and because he wants out, Anaheim isn't simply going to give away 150+ goals over the last 5 years for free. |
