its not about starting your career better than someone else, Ryan is a better player than voracek its that simple.. - rb2378nj
He is a better player but Voracek made strides last year and there's nothing to say he can't get better going forward. |

then they can keep Ryan and we'll keep shopping. Can't see how dismantling this d-corps now is productive. - JoeRussomanno
Geez, even the fuc&ing shot block, lets play to 1-0 Rangers have at least a natural sniper, (even if Gaborik wont go down face first on a shot much to his tyrant coaches dismay) |

Coburn Mez & Schenn can all move the puck, you don't need to be a 40 point threat on D to be considered a solid puck mover.
- puckhead17
Not about points. There is a big difference between being adequate at it, and being as good as Carle is at it. |

People went after Lindros for similar behavior (refusing to play for Sault Ste. Marie and then the Quebec Nordiques). So, it could work here and his playing to the media is just posturing on his part - but it devalues his return in a trade hurting the team that selected him and believed in him at one time. Let alone has paid him a good amount of money.

Who's to say Ryan won't get better? He's 25. Your giving no credit to Ryan if you believe Voracek can be better. Ryan has been putting up numbers every year since coming into the NHL. Questioning Ryan and his attitude is no different then rumors about Voracek being lazy in Columbus, don't always believe what you read. Ryan is a much better overall player and it's not close which is why Anaheim would never do a straight up deal.

Flyers official site has posted my article on the breakdowns of first-round and later-round (as well as undrafted) players on the Flyers and around the NHL.
http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=635191 - bmeltzer
The bottom line in all cases: A player’s original selection spot in the NHL Draft is the starting point of a potential future professional career. It need not be the end point if the player has the talent and work ethic it takes to play successfully in the best league in the world.
Nicely done, Bill. Very good article. |

Voracek is only 22. Ryan didn't even start playing in the NHL until he was 21/22 and didn't start putting up those numbers right away. Voracek has been hovering around 20 a year which is only a dozen goals less than these 30 goal seasons Ryan is putting up. THere's nothing to say Voracek can't be a 25-30 goal a year guy and if he does and the Flyers trade for him+ for Ryan that makes it really big mistake, which it already is anyway. |

I like Jake, but same here, we always over value our players a little...............cough cough Bryzgalov.....cough
seriously Ryan plays on the 2nd line with Koivu most of the time for depth, & never sees the 1st PP unit, and still gets 30 goals.
I like Voracek, but he, I think will be a 2nd tier forward, as Simmonds, and not sure on Reid. Ryan is a top tier forward true sniper. |

Bryzgalov was under a lot more pressure than being out on a poopty west coast team hearing his name mentioned in rumors. |

Ryan is a better player then Voracek no doubt. But the grass is very green in Anaheim apparently. Ryan is a good player. But he isn't this star player that many make him out to be. And it's not Voracek for Ryan that causes me to pause. It's the plus that is the issue. I would not trade Voracek and Meszaros or Coburn for Ryan. Holmgren might, but I wouldn't.

Yes, but is that due to him or the way he's been used/coached since that 36 point season?
Just wondering because I'd love to see him, Meszy, Luke Schenn, and Timonen on our PP points. - Flyskippy
Probably some of both.

Where Ryan is at now is Where Voracek could be in three years and very likely will be.
IF we're not believing what we read then there's no reason to even have this convo because he's not even being shopped. |

Toronto was 10th in the NHL last year in goals scored, and next to last in goals against. Why are they trading a defenseman, for a guy who's only asset right now is being a goal scorer? - PLindbergh31
Cause the defense corps gave up a lot of goals, got to get rid of some of them.

I see that as just a young guy being emotional. And reporters such as Randy Miller take advantage of that. Murray said he is going to sit down and talk to Ryan. I think Ryan is overreacting to what happens and how players names are thrown around this time of year. Ryan says that Anaheim hasn't done anything to make him feel wanted there. I'd say paying him 25M over 5 years is doing something to make him feel wanted.
