He is the player acquired in the Kevin Marshall trade. Last season he was the Phantom's leading scoring with 59 points (although some of those were from his time with Hershey). Playing for the Phantoms, he was a point per game player with 19 G, 12 A, for 31 points in 31 games.
Most people seem to think he's one of those career AHL guys that can score well in the A but wouldn't score enough with the big club to hold a roster spot. Apparently not well rounded enough to be an NHL role player either, so if he's not scoring he's not worth the roster spot. |

I think anytime you can trade an American hockey player for a Canadian player , YOU DO IT !!! |

Not sure why people are so high on Vorcacek. He is a decent player, but I'd gladly trade him + a pick for Ryan. If anything, Read has similar potential to Vorcacek and his cap hit is much friendlier. There's no way you trade your low-cap hit players if you don't have to. Vorcacek, 1st, and 3rd for Ryan... - steelydan
I like Voracek, but if you have a chance to get Ryan in the face of losing JVR you do it. I also don't mind Losing Coburn or Meszaros in the deal if we sign someone else in UFA. It seems like Voracek is going to be a contract situation, and Ryan wants to play and most likely stay in Philly. If you trade Coby or Mez and replace them with another D-man.... doesnt even have to be Suter, then all is good IMO. |

Or keep Mezsaros and Coburn and sign a UFA forward. It's not going to be an issue getting Voracek signed.

Briere is interesting. I think if they really wanted to they could unload him. His cap hit is high ($6.5 mil AAV) but his pay is low $7 mil this season, $3 mil next season, $2 mil in his last season. If he would waive his NTC he could be enticing to a team that needs to hit the cap floor. Lots of teams searching for 2nd line centers as well.
Love the guy but at 35 years old now and at $6.5 million...... |

I Don't think there's any chance in finding a team to take him, he has no defensive awareness, only offensive, I know he's awesome in the playoffs, but for all his playoff points, he will give up goals just as well, (no back check) but how can you beat tight checking physical defensive teams with him as your 2nd line center?
As well as the $ that he makes |

If that UFA forward is Parise... Sure. But no guarentee he will sign here. I would like to give Giroux that top line scoring winger he deserves. Voracek is not it. IMO he is a more skiilled version of what Lieno was to us. We do need that on our team, but he just doesnt fit with Giroux IMO. |

On paper, I don't really like Voracek with Giroux either. As both are more playmaker then shooter. Preferably you would want a goal scorer in that spot. I'm just not crazy about overpaying for somebody like Ryan.

Doesn't matter. He's not waiving his NMC, so he's here for the duration. Just gotta play him with defense-aware line mates and hope a) he doesn't hurt you too bad, and b) he keeps killing it in the playoffs.
He's a single parent and he's said several times he does not want to leave Philly. His kids have grown up here and he doesn't want to uproot them. I think it would take some sort of extreme circumstance to make him want to move, and the team really has no leverage to try to force him. |

O I know, he's here no matter what, I know that, even if he were to lift that movement clause. I think teams saw how you win in the playoffs and a cup. Defense and goaltending (and physical players that can skate). |

Thats more of my concern.
There is always a team that would take him with $5 mill remaining over the last 2 seasons. First thoughts are Tallon and Yzerman. |

whos is this ford guy?
we need some beef up front, i like parise, but not enough beef for my liking...im hoping we finally get ryan via trade, i hope we sign shultz tomorow and then we can deal one of our dman packaged with voracek for ryan.
luke schenn and shultz are close friends - mydoglicks
We traded Kevin Marshall for Ford last season. He apparently was a good sniper/goal scorer in the AHL last year, not sure how well he'd do if he gets to the NHL. And if we get Shultz then we would have 7 dmen, unless we trade one like Mez+ ford and a 1st for Ryan. |

Florida took Campbell because he's a solid defenseman ( yes he is overpaid) but he's a very good 2 way player (I think he's better in his own zone than given credit for). Solid offensive defenseman.
You need brutal bob gainey running a team as he did it with Gomez which they regretted since |

Seriously?
Briere is a brutal defensive player, I give him his offensive credit, but no, you don't win with no back check and loose defensive coverage (how we beat Pittsburgh)
Yes clutch goals, but it's a back and forth game |
