I don't mind the JVR deal, just thought, as others have mentioned, we would have gotten a 3rd or 4rth round pick back also. Any additional asset would have helped. That said, JVR's injury history may have played a part in the trade being a one for one.
Going forward, my personal preference would be to sign Schultz (another right handed shot), let Carle go in UFA and go for Parise. They will have this week to find out if this is possible as they can talk to, but not sign,Schultz.
D pairings of
Timonen/Coburn
Meszaros/Schenn
Schultz/Grossman
Effectively, we'd be changing out JVR/Carle for Schenn/Shultz/Parise
If you end up going after Ryan, I would be willing to do Jake. the rights to Carle and next year's 1rst, assuming you knew you could sign Schultz. If that happened, then I would resign Jagr. |

O no
Seriously?
Briere is a brutal defensive player, I give him his offensive credit, but no, you don't win with no back check and loose defensive coverage (how we beat Pittsburgh)
Yes clutch goals, but it's a back and forth game - puckhead17
Absolutely. Briere is but one player on a team. And I'm sure you don't get excited and thank God when Briere pumps in a big goal in a playoff game. I'm sure you say, we don't need that.

Florida also took Cambell to help reach the cap floor - ob18
You are correct campbell has talent and thats one of the many reasons Florida traded for him.
What Campbell does not have is a front-loaded contract like Briere. Campbell is owed over $7 million each year for the next 4 years. Briere goes $7 mil, $3 mil, $2 mil in actual salary to be paid out. Its a perfect contract to get to the cap floor. He's also a solid role model for the younger players and he's undeniably clutch. |

No I don't say that. Good one
I just don't like how we lost and how we can compete moving forward
We were so bad in our own zone |

Ok. I did miss that. Still wouldn't see a team taking him, but I guess it's moot. As he's not waving his clause anyway |

Not that you guys care but some Leaf fans think JVR can fill in at centre (I do not). How often has he played Centre for Philly and how did he do? Don't care about junior. |

Don't recall him playing center here but he did at New Hampshire and don't think it went well |

His strength is in the offensive side of the ice. |

You'll also be asking why he doesn't use his size more often. It comes in spurts but not often enough.
All the talent is there, he has to put it all together though. |

I say schenn dons 88 - griouxmvp2012
He can't have #8 unless Rory Fitzpatrick is consulted about it first. |

Good Toronto could use it. You guys got an excellent character guy in Schenn. Ron Wilson's systems were a recipe for disaster for a guy like Schenn. He will be a rock in Philly. Look for some big hits and sticking up for his teammates, especially early on in the season to make his mark. |

His defensive game needs work, but I think he will improve as he gains confidence. I don't think he is one of those players who will just be an offensive zone player over his career.
You got a good kid there who if healthy WILL score 30 goals this upcoming season. He goes on these streaks where he is just a DOMINANT player for games in a row. Then he will disappear. I think as he gets older that will change.
In the playoffs in 2010, he was SO dominant that I have trouble believing that he wont be a very good player. Sure there are players that go on streaks every once in a while, but JVR was SO MUCH better than everyone else on the ice for that entire series that I think if he stays healthy he will be that player more often than not.

Can't say, it just wasn't going to be a position he was going to play here with all the depth we've had at center or centre |
