The more I think about this second round pick, the less it makes any semblance of sense.

Trading a goaltender in Bobrovsky, whose course should have been a developmental one, and using the pick on a project goaltender who is at the very least 5-6 years away is puzzling to say the least. I don't get it.

- PLindbergh31

It confused me as well, but I think Bob was making too much and was also not happy in a backup role. I am VERY worried he will turn into a real solid #1 for another team. I never like trading away young goaltending depth. I mean, with Leighton UFA, we basicaly have Bryz and noone under contract to backup or capapble of being called up for from the A. Again we have zero org depth at this position. Homer's gotta fill some holes wisely here.

Bryz isn't going anywhere. Bob is 22 and has 1 year left on his deal. If he wanted to be a starter he wasn't signing here anyway, so they traded him while he still had value.
The goalies in the system are marginal at best. in 5-6 years, the kid they just drafted will be 22, just like bob but on an entry level contract,

I feel the same way.

I wouldn't mind Penner if he could park in front of the net and pot 20. Feel like he's the type that needs a change of scenery to get back to old form and he'll probably get paid less than $4 million.

Hartsy - Giroux - Voracek
Penner - Schenn - Briere
Read - Couturier - Simmonds
Sestito - Talbot - Wellwood
Rinaldo

- moylander

I was reading this morning that Penner needs wrist surgery. He may not be ready to start the season.

Toronto was 10th in the NHL last year in goals scored, and next to last in goals against. Why are they trading a defenseman, for a guy who's only asset right now is being a goal scorer?
- PLindbergh31

Schenn was a fish out of water much of the time last year. Could be that he didn't fit with Wilson's run and gun. Maybe that would have changed under Carlysle but Leafs brass believe there are better options.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sullivan on this team next year.
And Marty as the back up.
Biron and Bryz as a post game presser would make the season!

I'm not ultra concerned he will turn into a # 1, the odds of that happening in Columbus are pretty much zero. I just think the Flyers rushed Bobrovsky into NHL duty. He should have been developing, not playing in Philadelphia imo.

The only credible UFA guys to backup Bryzgalov, are Biron, and Clemmensen, if the Flyers don't land one of those guys, and Bryzgalov gets injured they are pretty much screwed.

No Jagr:

Doan
Carle
Biron

Maybe Dom Moore......but the top 3 and call it a day

Did anyone watch the playoffs? Doan would be awesome. I swear I saw him breathe fire on more than one occasion.

Doubt it. He's worth more than that.
He might actually be the perfect back up for Bryz.

I would be feeling a whole lot better if the first two picks were Maatta, and Thrower.

Penner as a free agent is a hit or miss, he had a great playoff, but has been up and down his career, you could give him 4 years and get another pancake bad back issue so - pass

P.A. Parenteau intrigues me.

I'm afraid the remaining cap space will be used on Carle, Jagr, and a backup goaltender and that will be the extent of it.

I like parenteau. Would be a nice signing. Flyers have 11m plus the 10% this summer. Flyers have plenty of money to make some moves.

He could be. Also guy is a monster in shootouts. He would most certainly be in the top 3.
