I'm no capologist, but we have that 10% buffer in the summer months, along with all 50 contracts. Maybe that's why some people are saying we have 11+ million in cap space currently. LTIR Pronger, Walker and others to the AHL, lose that 10% buffer by opening night.

In regards to Ryan... love the kid, not sure what we could offer without gutting our tier-2 guys. Voracek, Read, Mesz, picks, some combo of that? I guess this all depends on July 1st, we'll see where Parise, Suter, and Schultz go. If we snag one of them, that changes everything. Nash and Ryan will likely go after those 3 sign.

I expect Homer's plan is simple. AUgment the current roster via UFA if he can so as not to lose the young talent. We all know it'd take a Schenn or Cooter etc to get Ryan. That's a non starter for me. I we indeed have enough cap to sign Carle, re up voracek and get a backup AND have 9 mil in cap, make a run at a winger like Parise and if you come up short go with Jagr and another cheaper guy. I can't see how we have that much cap though. If we do all that and lad Parise...this will be a fantastic roster IMO assuming there's a season.

Well that puts them at $5.5 mil in cap space, for all intents and purposes.

We have to squeeze Czech and Carle in for sure.

Can we even do that?? Ugh.

There goes Parise

- Giroux_Is_God

In terms of actual Cap space for the Season, it's a lot more then that.

What? He got exactly the contract he deserved without the years. Again, he didn't have a career season. If anything, we have a player like Wayne Simmonds at a discount price. He's just finished his 4 season in the NHL and already looking for his 3rd raise. This is okay by everyone? How will everyone feel if he only signs for another 1 year contract?

Actually Restricted free agents can be offered qualifying offer and if rejected, they can go if the team decided to allow it. JvR was offered more money because he's shown his hand on the ice by dominating in the playoffs in 2011. Voracek hasn't exactly done this.
- Schenn2shine

What does that mean they can go if the team decided to allow it? The whole reason for giving the player a Qualifying Offer is to retain the rights to the player.

What an exciting day for that Schultz kid. A FA at so young, is this common for such a highly sought after prospect? I don't recall a situation like this recently. Is he limited on his deal too, like it has to be a entry level contract or whatever?

It does have to be an EL deal, so Schultz will choose based on location and organization as the money will be the same for every team

Where you think he lands? I'm going to say NYR or Toronto. I hope the Flyers try to sign him not sure if he will choose the Flyers though.

Thats cool. Must be nice considering how many teams would be interested. I dont know much about him myself, just think its a pretty cool scenario for a kid.

Was away from here all weekend, in 20 words or less, what's the feeling in here regarding the Schenn/JVR trade?

I'm fine with it.

If Pronger feels well enough, and is capable of doing this..I'd love to have him mentor the young D. So it'd be something like Lappy did while on LTIR. I'm down with this.
- Hextall271

Lappy may have worked wonders with Couturier.

Hmm...What would I prefer? Re-signing one player season after season who has yet to seriously break out or trading him for a player with a current contract who actually wants to be here. Real tough choice.

I think they could have gotten more for JvR, but it seems they were pretty intent on moving him. I like getting Schenn.

If they were able to bring Kadri in on the deal (Not saying it was even remotely possible in talks), we might not need to be searching for another forward at the moment. It just seems like they're down on Kadri and I feel there isn't much excuse for keeping him in the AHL when that kid makes a difference every time he's called up.

I am excited too. I am confused by the differing reports of how much cap space we have though. Seravelli is saying we have 14mil???? That doesn't seem right at all.
- Hextall271

Seravelli apparently is confused about a) the new cap number, b) the 10% rule, c) the fact that LTIR doesn't exist during the summer, d) all of the above.

Obviously anyone would prefer a long term deal. But there is nothing wrong with a one year deal. It is a compromise. Your assuming that because Voracek signed a one year deal last year, and hasn't signed yet, that he doesn't want to be here.

Looking at the Flyers off Season Cap number and using the 10% exemption, the Flyer have around 13-14M in Cap space available to them

Edit: Using the quick calculation I did last night on the Flyers off Season cap number, I estimate they have $12,675,806, to use.

Yeah, Kadri does seem to have lost a little luster in the Leafs eyes, especially if they're gonna use JvR at center
