Thing is we need another goal scorer and the only one there is Semin and I dont think Semin is a good fit for this team.
The problem with trading Dubi is that his value nose dived this year, so youre not gonna get anything significant with him as the main piece. Better off just signing Whitney, youll probably get more out of him, without losing all the prospects and picks. - NYRPowerPlay
He's what? 42? That scares me. And again, I said Dubi+ for a player whose name we have not heard. I am sure someone can be made available. |

Scares you how? All he does is put up 50-60 pts every year.
Dubi + means youll be overpaying for a maybe player. |

Because youre overvaluing Dubi and what teams would give up for him. |

Guys, this team was just 2 games away from a SCF appearence. No need for an overhaul here. Sign a cheap forward who can put up numbers (Mueller, Whitney, Hudler) sign Schultz and find a replacement for Prust such as Konopka.I'd be more than happy to start the season with this lineup.
Mueller/Hudler Richards Gaborik
Kreider Stepan Callahan
Hagelin Anisimov Dubinsky
Boyle Konopka Rupp/Feds rotate in and out.
McDonagh Girardi
Staal Schultz
Del Zotto Stralman
Bickel
Hank
Biron
That is an improved lineup and most likely scenario. No need to drastically change the look of a team that is so young, talented, and close together. |

Ok, well if we pay and expect 50 fine, but he is going to want to get paid for that 77 pts. And by paid I mean wanting 2 years and there will be a desperate team that gives it to him. I think the perfect match is Yotes keep him at 2 years for $5 mil. They both would jump at that chance. And I believe this will indeed happen. |

would prefer whitney. Guy is magic on the powerplay. Mueller, good skill but made out of paper mache. Hudler, imo meh. |

Its more how Schultz views himself compared to McDonagh. All he has to do is see what the Rangers did with a Wisconsin Defensemen in just a year and a half and that he can do the same. He is going to look to maximize his potential.
To me its EDM (Loads of ice time Opportunity being "the guy", plus such a great up and coming team to which he can be part of the solution) or Us (Friends on the team, can maximize his potential and therefore eventual pay, contending team).
We shall see. It is interesting because I always think about this come July 1: Do GMs miss out on players because they are busy on the phone with other agents while another player is being signed elsewhere before a GM can talk to his agent?
With that said at 12:01 if I'm Sather I call Schultz, not Parise, Suter, no one else. I send Mess and who ever else to kick the tires of other players. I am making Schultz Priority 1.
^Although can't teams talk to him today but he can officially sign till July 1?? If so that changes things obv. Then every GM is calling him because hes the only FA they can talk to. |

Dubi will be here if hes not in a package for a scorer. If they cant package him I think they'd rather see if he can bounce back rather than dump him for a pick or something. |

jimbo's link says that vancouver is in the driver seat because of they are his hometown team. Leafs in 2nd, Rangers in 3rd and the Oilers at the bottom. I want schutlz on this team. Gives the rangers the right handed shot they need with out have to pay big money for it. |

Teams can talk to him today, but he can't officially sign somewhere until July 1st.
To me, sales pitch has to be:
not only Stepan and McDonagh, but we are becoming a haven for college trained NHLers to thrive.
Very little travel as opposed to Vancouver who have the most in the league
We don't have -50 degree months like Edmonton has in January.
We don't have the Toronto hockey media pressure cooker.
We are NYC, it's the place to be |

I like Glens idea about Ott and Robidas for Dubi +
Ott replaces Prust, Robidas gives us a RH shot and hes good defensively.
If thats the only move we make, I think I can live with it. Especially since Miller looks like hes built like a tank and might make the team.
Kreider, Richards, Callahan
Miller, Stepan, Anisimov
Hagelin, Ott, Boyle
Rupp, Konopka, Moen
McDonagh, Girardi
MDZ, Staal
Erixon, Robidas |

Not necessarily, hes 18, I dont know if he makes the team straight out of camp. Robidas would be a spot filler and rental until Schultz is ready. |

I see Hudler being the Ville Leino of this free agent market. Someone will give him a long term deal for big bucks hoping he can produce consistently and that team has a good chance of looking foolish for doing it. I hope that won't be us.
Mueller is a buy low guy but if you sign him and expect or need him to be top-six then you are screwed. If you bring him in and he does great but you just can't count on him.
I've been big on Whitney but realistically I think he will go to Carolina should he not re-sign in Phoenix. Phoenix is option one and the Canes need another winger so they would likely love to bring him back again to Raleigh if the Yotes don't get it done.
Bottom line is Slats better have something up his sleeve or we shouldn't expect any significant addition to the forward groups. |

Schultz is 21 or 22. He played three years at Wisconsin I believe. Many evaluators think he could step in right away assuming the club expects some natural ups and downs in his play. |
