move vanek for a d man then?

top 3 lws are morrow, foligno and leino

lines

morrow, coho, pommer
folgino, ennis, staff
leino, ott, doan

if the kid shines put ott on a 4th line and play him second team pp and second team pk

- homiedclown

morrow can play both sides of the wing right?? if so, no need to move vanek. just play morrow on the right side, or even move vanek full time over to rw. i like him better on that side being a righty anyways. lets him get his wrister off quicker

If Doan comes to the Sabres hes the top line center. Hodgson isnt taking his spot IMO.

The reason why that guy mentioned Kovy is because in the Devils blog on here it says that if the Devils have to file for bankruptcy, which is very likely... The NHL has already come out and said that Kovy would be moved.

I like him as a good player... but there is no way I see him as a Sabre.

Ott/Morrow

Doan but he would only be a 3 year player max.

But I like Ryan more. IF we only have the pieces to make one trade.. I hope its for Ryan.

Leino's best chemistry with anyone on the team was with Pommer...

I'm one of the few who really wants Vanek to stay, I'd hope that one of our LW's could move to the right. I think Van/Pom is great as long as Vanek stays healthy and Ruff doesn't stick em with a scrub. I also think that with a little more toughness up front, the D should be less afraid to get in people's faces. I feel like there were too few guys that were relied upon to do ALL the tough-guy work, and with no support from the front, it just meant getting your face bashed in. Nobody wants to get their face bashed in.

i like vanek/pommer together but only if the center is a tough nasty physical player. thats what those two need to excel. ott comes to mind but not sure if he has the playmaking skills to get it done.

thornton comes to mind as well. he would be very effective between those 2

if you look at morrow's stats... every other year he has been productive vs injured. And at 33 years old is definitely and the down of his career. 4.1M cap hit...

I think there are better options.. I'd put Morrow down on the 2nd or 3rd line.

I'd love to have Kovalchuk, but you're right... something about him on the Sabres just doesn't feel right. He's a guy that belongs on a heart and soul team, but could become disinterested if the character in the room isn't there.

always liked thornton, but i feel like any day now he'll start to show his age. Just doesn't seem like one of those guys that's going to play until he's 40. Someone in his mold would be a perfect fit, though. The key is someone tough enough to throw the first punch, but still has great playmaking abilities. We all know Vanek can put the puck in the net if given a little space... and said puck.

No clue on the NTC, I said that based on the previous statement that if the Devils go bankrupt they'd have to move Kovy. Again, I think he gets a worse rap than deserved, (everyone wanted out of ATL, and he had a slow start in NJ but played really well since) but I think he's a little thin-skinned for a Lindy Ruff team.

im not even talking about throwing the first punch. those 2 need someone who can play the body, control the puck down low along the boards, and then get it to them for a shot. a big body who likes to use it and has some hands.

he will be 33 when the next season starts, assuming we have one

missed 5 games in 7 years for the sharks and still puts up a point per game

I would go all in on him for 2 years, if the goal is to win a cup with miller in net

See its their bankruptcy part that really makes me believe that there is no way they will be able to give Parise a long term 7+M contract.... especially a huge front loaded one that he would get on the open market... not to mention Kovy being the only forward signed after this next season. He has to realize that team is heading toward rebuilding with Brodeur's retirement and pending bankruptcy. If he wants to win a cup immediately.. its not in NJ.

Too (frank)in' bad. Isn't he one of the anti-fighting ex-enforcer brigade? Can't come back now, he's too "damaged" from being "forced" to fight.
