He has been trying, he's drafted more ontario born players than any other team since he's been in Toronto...what more can he do? Force trades for Ontario players? - Juice

Cherry had a point. Burke was saying that Ontario guys come into Toronto and have the game of their lives, so why not get some for our team? It wouldn't hurt to at least have one hometown kid. But he was wrong because CLEARLY Burke does not purposely avoid having Ontario kids. And it has been proven that having several Ontario kids does not necessarily mean its going to be a good team. The worst Leaf team ever statistically had something like 8 Ontario kids on it. - dionschenn
Players get comfortable sometimes at home, after the initial novelty wears off. You have many distractions when you grew up somewhere and less when you're new in town.
No disrespect to Cherry, but the kids of this day are not the same of players of yester-year. These players have a sense of entitlement right out of the draft. Most have to learn about respect because they have an easy road of peole feeding their egos thru junior. Big shock when everyone is as talented as you and nobody holds up from hitting you. |

I think it's garbage. I mean, sure it would be nice. But, to me, it's just something for people to pick on.
I know the "argument" was about players on the Leafs, but, if he had something against players from Ontario, then why would he draft kids from Ontario?
People are just making things up to be pissed off about. - Ballsackian
1st of all, it's not that Burke has something against Ontario. It's that he prefers Americans and American college players
2nd of all, the scouts largely decide who to draft, not Burke |

They will be the Sedins
Although they play polar opposites of each other |

Drafted or on the leafs? Burke had less control over the players on the roster than he did who he drafted.
Point is Cherry made a ridiculous rant that had very little thought put behind it. - Juice
Right Wilson controlled the line up. Burke may have some input, which is why Schenn played so many games and Komi wasn't buried in the minors.

get used to these names everyone
cause when the leafs are consistantly good from year to year there will be more than a few of them on the roster
the rebuild is starting to show signs of PRO life.. besides kadri and a couple others.. this year marks the first year where burke and Co picks will begin to TRULY shape the pro rank rosters |

Ryan was drafted and Burke went to him immediately to tell him his twin brother would be invited to camp. |

I didn't say Burke has something against people from Ontario - that was Cherry's argument.
From the start, Burke said he was going to build a North American team, because he likes the style of the North American game.
So, currently on the roster we have:
CAN 10
USA 9
OTHER 3
Hasn't he done exactly what he said he would do?
And about the drafting, sure the scouts recommend who to draft, but Burke is the GM - if he had some preference based on nationality, wouldn't he overrule the scouts? Think so.

Can't wait to see Biggs in the OHL. Especially if Oshawa trades him to London. He'll be eligable to be on their prospect team for the tourney now. |

I know, I was just curious as to what the end game is with Matt being invited too.
Since he went undrafted, does he go back in as an overager? What's the deal on us signing him? |

get Nash, Chris Stewart, Brandon Prust. All Ontario-born players that would bleed blue and represent - bobbyflex
Only players who embodied that was Gilmour (Kingston, Ontario) and Clark (Kelvington Saskatchewan) they elevated their play in Toronto. Domi (Ontario) was the team guy who always looked out for his buddies on and off the ice.
Roberts and Niewendyk played their style no matter where they went. Sundin always left you wanting more..Talent and put up numbers but always made you question if he could have given more for the team. Arguement could be for Tucker and Corson but they beacam a distraction to the dressingroom and Tuckler never fully regained his swagger ( I bought his Jersey though) |

Absolutely! Would be a lot of fun watching them; wonder if he plays on a line with the Rupert twins, assuming Ryan goes back another year.
