Personally, I'm a little more confident in JVR hitting his, but I'd be willing to accept some observer bias on that one. I've not watched much of Luke. - BulliesPhan87
Luke Schenn as a 22 year old had 270 hits, good for 7th in the league, and 115 blocked shots.
It seems to me that we talk about the KID as if he is a 26-27 year old veteran who has never lived up to his potential. There HAS to be some perspective here (not saying you specifically) about what to expect from this kid at his age.
Those numbers from last season tell me that he is on the right path as a physical "shut down" type defenseman. If he is already bringing a physical game to that extent, I have high hopes that the rest of his pedigree comes with age and experience. You can't teach the mean streak, but you can teach decision making.
I'm hopeful he is a solid top 4 for years to come.

Amazing what 24hrs can do. We may lose Carle which in the end doesnt make or break us.
The Devils could lose Parise and Brodeur.........Marty Brodeur not a Devil? My Devil associates are struggling very hard with that idea. I think it's awesome |

Might just be that we saw him in a Leafs uniform and therefore subconsciously associate him with a lack of hope |

And those totals were accumalated playing 16 minutes a game. There is no question that this kid has the physical skill set to be a fine defensive defenseman in the League. That can add some secondary offense, and is a decent puck mover. But I read that he's a mistake prone player. He's 22 years old! |

I used to mess up on purpose on the one car level where bugs would splat against the window for each mistake you made.
Ahh, simpler times. |

The first two I wouldn't mind at the right price. Campoli I don't think so. |

I just hope we don't end up with a defense that is leadfooted. |

I would rather not. Signing Carle is an overpayment that comes with a NTC |

but tough to trade your captain in the midst of a 100pt season |

The fact that he hasn't traded for anybody's rights and hasn't blown everything up in pursuit of Suter/Weber/Ryan/Nash etc yet speaks to a bit of a sea-change in his approach.
I'm 100% behind Homer's overarching vision, his adherence to the Flyer identity and his ability to evaluate and acquire talent -- however, it's been very hard to support his cap-bungling, poor asset management, and repeated mistakes in the details during his watch (Hyka, contract limits, tagging space, Lilja's multi-year deal triggering 35+, etc).
From where I'm standing though, it seems like he's learned some valuable lessons and the team will be better off for it in the future. - Tomahawk
The problem is that mistakes aren't mistakes just because a fan labels them a mistake. For example, signing Lilja to a 2 year deal was not a mistake. It was a good value signing. And that was proven last Season. And there's no reason Lilja can't fill the same role this year. There is also a lot of a lack of understanding of the NHL CBA and Salary Cap out there. |

It wasn't a poor value deal at all. If Carle is leaving, I'm glad we have another proven NHL defenseman to plug into the lineup. Opportunities could be created for other players. - MJL
