Except for the part where Carle has been a point producing NHL defensman since he came into the League, what 6 years ago? And has put up 3 straight solid Seasons of 30 or more points as a defenseman. While Leino has had exactly one good NHL Season. But otherwise, hey I can see the comparison.

What happened to the handshake deal Carle and the Flyers had? Bad reporting, or Carle and his agent having a change of heart once Calgary lost their mind with Wideman?

If the Flyers options are overpaying Carle, or letting him walk, let him walk and make due with what is in place.

Carle pulled a Homer, crossed two of his toes during the hand shake. Gave him a taste of his own medicine. Previous victims of the "Homer toe cross" are Carter, Richards, and JVR.

With Weber and Enstrom available (possibly), I'd like to see them let Carle walk if his price is too high. I'd rather have cap space to take a shot at the real deal next year then overpay for a decent player like Carle now. You never know who will/may step up with increased ice time due to Carles departure.

i'm willing to bet niemi's numbers were not much better than leight's.

Leight's GAA and SV% were better overall during the PO's but somehow Niemi was able to squeak out two more wins in the finals.

Fair point, and although meant in jest, there may be something to it. Carle may figure after seeing the team change course like a person changes underwear, that he doesn't want to sign a 4 or 5 year deal to turn around and be traded on a whim.

Awesome that the guy plays here only one year and decides to stay on.

My issue is this, Schenn was acquired to significantly upgrade the # 6 dman position held down last year by Lilja, Bourdon, and Gustafsson, I believe he does that, however if Carle is not retained, nor a suitable replacement brought in, you are essentially replacing Carle with Schenn while losing JVR in the process. Under that scenario, the team is not improving.

Dont read too much into this Sherlock. The comparison is simply that Carle could be another overpaid free agent.

possibly, but i think carle (as a ufa) would be able to include a ntc that kicks in immediately. he wouldn't have to wait for it to vest, like richards, carter, jvr.... who all signed before they were UFA eligible

The one and only move the Flyers will make that I think everyone can agree on and be happy about.

I agree with you. That's why I was against any trade with Anaheim that involved a roster defenseman. Losing Carle and adding Schenn is definitely a step backwards. At least for the short term. That's if they don't replace him. And with timonen possibly being out for a bit, I'm not exactly feeling warm and fuzzy about the defense.
