I agree with you. That's why I was against any trade with Anaheim that involved a roster defenseman. Losing Carle and adding Schenn is definitely a step backwards. At least for the short term. That's if they don't replace him. And with timonen possibly being out for a bit, I'm not exactly feeling warm and fuzzy about the defense. - funmaster18
I think Kimmo will be ready to start the season, but who knows really. Trading JVR off so quickly coming off a lost year, made little sense to me. Why the hurry to trade him? I think the Flyers may have been concerned his hip may become a long term issue. |

Dont read too much into this Sherlock. The comparison is simply that Carle could be another overpaid free agent. - Daman
The majority of quality UFA players are overpaid. Not exactly a new revelation.
And you don't see me referring to you as Sherlock, so I'll ask that you refrain in doing so. |

My issue is this, Schenn was acquired to significantly upgrade the # 6 dman position held down last year by Lilja, Bourdon, and Gustafsson, I believe he does that, however if Carle is not retained, nor a suitable replacement brought in, you are essentially replacing Carle with Schenn while losing JVR in the process. Under that scenario, the team is not improving. - PLindbergh31
Sure about that? Schenn wasn't acquired because Holmgren knew losing Carle was a possibility? |

It's very strange. Unless they planned to bolster the defense or offense in another way, I'm not sure why they would have traded him so quickly. Unless they had doubts about his health as you said or about other things like work ethic and motivation, which I don't know anything about. |

With Weber and Enstrom available (possibly), I'd like to see them let Carle walk if his price is too high. I'd rather have cap space to take a shot at the real deal next year then overpay for a decent player like Carle now. You never know who will/may step up with increased ice time due to Carles departure. - funmaster18
I think Enstrom is a definite upgrade over Carle. But I don't see him as true #1 D man |

Dont worry champ, I'll probably face a ban for that one.
While others call me Douche bag without repercussions, I feel that the refs don't appreciate literary references to fictional characters. |

Maybe it was. Why not pursue another d-man in free agency, and hold on to JVR?
If Carle isn't re-signed in your opinion what is all this cap space going to be used on? |

But is Schenn a good replacement for Carle? Couldn't they have found other ways to replace Carle if all they we're going to do to replace him was acquire a young defenseman? I understand the upside there, but that seems like an odd choice to replace Carle. |

By all accounts, even if Carle isn't retained, none of the major FA's like Suter, Parise, etc seem to have the Flyers on their radar. |

Even if not, I would like to grab him next year if weber can't be had. Still a lot of time for things to change this year, though. Let's see what happens once FA opens. |

he is a good puck mover, all star, would be a great pick up for the Flyers given how their current D men and Kimmo nearing his finale |

Well, the pickings are slim. Signing Jagr doesn't make much sense. |

It doesn't seem like it, no. The flyers are good at convincing players to come here when they have a guy they want at all costs. I don't see the Richards/carter/JVR trades as a detriment because the type of FA they'd go after would likely have a NMC anyway. Hopefully Homer can pull a rabbit out of his hat. |

I don't doubt that actually. Just when I was ready to right off big names Sam stirs the pot. It's impossible to me how they could sign 1 of the big 2, let alone multiple pieces.

Call it a day and keep yourself in play for the big names next year. Aside from Weber, theres some large names that could be available, ie. Iginla |

Add another to that club. I'm happy he seems to have straightened himself out but I'm still in the good riddance club for that guy. |
