Every top team is going to have to make some moves at some point due to Cap issues. That's a fact of life in a Cap world. The Flyers put a quality team on the ice every year.

Not being able to re-sign Carle before July 1, is not an example of poor Cap management.

It is if their philosophy is to spend to the cap every year. You may not agree with it but it doesn't mean it's mismanaged. It means theyd rather spend now and figure it out later. Whether that's a good strategy is debatable, but I wouldn't call it mismanagement.

Because getting a defenseman in Free Agency isn't a guarantee. Especially one with the youth and upside of Schenn.

But is Schenn a good replacement for Carle? Couldn't they have found other ways to replace Carle if all they we're going to do to replace him was acquire a young defenseman? I understand the upside there, but that seems like an odd choice to replace Carle.

I don't beleive that getting Schenn was a direct replacement for Carle. Really different kinds of players. But if another body isn't brought in, Meszaros can be given more offensive responsibilities and icetime on the PP. While Schenn can take defensive duties such as on the PK.

Even if not, I would like to grab him next year if weber can't be had. Still a lot of time for things to change this year, though. Let's see what happens once FA opens.
