I don't see Subban as a top pairing D Man -- Bogosian yeah, but I wouldn't trade Schenn. - flyersfan51
what dmen are in the 1st couple of yrs is not what they are for most of their careers and no better example of that is pronger. while most guys don't magically develop an offensive game where none previously existed -which is why Luke is limited- the mistakes tended to be fewer if they have the talent, get coached up and work hard enuf.
btw, subban has shown many more flashes of top pairing acumen than bogo has up to this point. the kid can play. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Carle's Worth, Prospect Camp - bmeltzer
Carle has been in the organization for a few years now. The Flyers brass know him inside and out. Why has it now gone to ufa for him to try to be resigned? Are they still on the fence? No money anytime in the past 3 years? Or does he simply not want to really be here? Coburn locked up well ahead of time. Even Grossmann got it done rather quickly in his short time here.
To me, this is shades of Leino - they give him an in-season offer extension, he turns it down, and they agree to talk about it in July. |

Now your fishing did you really say shelley? Why not toss in Ian Laperriere? And as of now Jagr is not on the team hes not signed and shelley will be wavied and not on the team. - mace14
Don't know if you've seen or not, but Lappy retired two weeks ago. Shelley is still an active player on this team and there is a very good chance that he won't be waived. We've been saying for two seasons now that Shelley will be waived and it hasn't happened.
As for Jagr, I mentioned in my post that he's a pending UFA. You probably missed it though. No biggie. |

What makes you think shelley wont be wavied? there is less room this year then there was last for him. Sestio is 5 times the player he is. |

seems as tho Coburn and Grossmann were more of a priority to sign. Doesn't mean they don't want Carle. I think they definitely do and I really hope it gets done. I love the idea of Coburn/Grossman/Schenn/Carle/Meszaros/Timonen/Bourdon/Lilja as the 8 dmen. |

Shelley is a locker room staple for this team and apparently the guys like him around. And while Sestito might be a better player than Shelley, chances are Shelley will be in the press box rather than being waived. |

if carle wants too much, try and get salo for a year. then go after a bigger fish next offseason
should leave the flyers more money to try and bring in a scoring forward - FlyerMike18
I like some rational conversation, instead of the Carle love festival.
Some of the talk here makes him sound like league MVP.

Even if Carle did return this season, he'd be the Flyers 6th defenseman and isn't worth anything more than 3.5 mil in my opinion. I'd take Dennis Wideman at the 5 mil per he got from Calgary any day. To say that Carle is comparable to Wideman isn't accurate at all. Wideman runs the powerplay like a tuxedo and plays in all different situations. Carle is at best a number 4 defenseman and doesn't possess the skills to run a powerplay like Wideman. He's looked pretty lost without Pronger next to him over the past season and a half. I'm gonna laugh my ace off at the team that pays Carle 5-6 million per. What a joke that would be. I'd love to have him back as a number 6 at the salary he's been getting over the past few seasons, but not a penny more. Bourdon as a number 6 would be fine with me. |

I have no problems walking away from Carle, don't love him or hate him, but he isn't worth the $$$. Give the younger kids a chance, how'd that work out for us last year? Oh yeah.... We made it to the SCF with ryan parent and crotch-check as our third pair. Granted prongs was in that group, but mez & gus/MAB is a definite upgrade. We will be fine, and if we aren't homer will figure it out before the deadline. Chill |

so your going to keep him around at 1.1mil to sit in the press and talk in the locker room. Thats a real good idea!!! |

I think Shelley's time has come and gone with this team. That money could be used elsewhere for the Flyers. |

he's a good player, and i'd love to see the flyers bring him back. but if the bidding gets out of hand, i don't want them to break the bank trying to get him resigned
his loss will sting for now, but it won't be the end of the world |

its has nothing to do with a lovefest or thinking he is all that. the alternatives out there are few. they are a better team with him than without |

Carle is put in the postion to get points hes not an a big threat to score goals. He has no shot and he is one of if not the slowest player on the team. He gives up the puck all the time because he wont go in the corners. If you are on the power play all year long you better have some points or someones going to lose there job. - mace14
I hear this all the time. Carle only get's points because of who he plays with, and what position he's put in. Has absolutely nothing to do with Carle as a player and his skill level. Nothing at all! |

i see the first poster's point though... was it the flyers priority, or were those guys just easier to sign? maybe carle's been playing hardball with an eye toward july
of course, it's total speculation. but the possibility is there. and i think it's just as likely as the flyers just valuing the other players more |

Maybe not Christmas time, but maybe Easter (aka near the trade deadline)... I could live without Carle, playing Gus/Lilja/Bourdon at the 6th spot until the trade deadline... Then pick up a experienced defenseman for the playoffs. We started with a good lineup, but Pronger loss force us played with a weaker defensive group for most of last year. If we don't have Carle, we still have the Schenn and Grossmann upgrades.
2011-12
**Pronger**-Timmo
Coburn-Carle
Mez-Lilja / Bourdon / Gus
*Deadline pick up Grossmann/ Kubina
2010-11
Timmo-Schenn
Coburn-Grossmann
Mez- Bourdon / Gus / Lilja
*Deadline? - leon neon
It's rare at anytime of year for a defenseman of the quality to earn a 7M Cap hit, to be traded. |

If they can get Salo for a decent deal (no more then 2 years plz) he would be a decent option if Carle is gone. Very strong offensively and IMO better in his own end the Carle. Yes he would only play about half the season, but the benefit to this is the Flyers may have to carry 8 defenseman if they re up with MAB, and Bourdon now will be guaranteed his ice time to develop.
Salo when healthy is an upgrade over Carle.
Overall Carle is better because of his age and durability, but if you can't get Carle, Salo would be an option to explore. |
