I agree, no need to bring in Marty. Plus there is no reason for him to sign here anyway, if he comes back it's probably to win a Cup not attempt (probably fail) to scrape into the playoffs and get booted in the first round.

Why does Mike think we need to make the playoffs next year? As much as I'd love being swept in the 1st round I think its a BETTER idea to tank next year and grab what we really need for free - MacKinnon aka franchise 1C.

....wow, let me guess, you've never played hockey have you? Ever try to shoot the puck let alone pass it with a wrist injury? And I'm sorry but if you do actually watch and follow hockey then you should already know when a player is hurt, their production is affected whether or not they play through the injury. I can think of countless of examples where good players vanish because of injuries.

So that is why I have been struggling this year in my hockey league lol

Jonathan Quick just signed in LA... why is nobody talking about Bernier, should be cheaper than Luongo and has potential. I think it's worth the risk to get Bernier

Because we already have too many young, unproven goalies.

Iunno guys, if florida gets luongo, say trades theodore+ which doesnt make sense since theodore played really good for florida and brought them to the playoffs and further into the playoffs, while luongo and the nucks got kicked out the first round.... But if they get luongo surely luongo will start with markstrom as backup for mentoring then when markstrom is ready to be a starter he will start while luongo is a backup. Brodeur makes absolutely no sense for us we dont need a guy who will stick with us for like a year or 2... We arent winning the cup anytime soon, so whats the point? I highly doubt he will even bring us to the playoffs... the leafs absolutely dominated new jersey last season and sniped on brodeur... Theres not much goalies around the league anymore that are elite or available like luongo, but i know burke is waiting for the price to be lowered on luongo most definitely. Its down to either florida or toronto so cant wait to see what they do.

For justin schultz, i pray he comes to toronto so we can start him with gardiner then we have more expendable defensemen to trade away for forwards or in this case a goalie.

every player in the nhl plays injured, if he can't handle it he's in the wrong sport.

best case scenario:
one of reimer or bernier step up and play exceptional

worst case scenario:
they both suck and we tank, grab #1 overall

For sure man, I played through a wrist injury one season, couldn't even lift the puck off the ice! Barx will probably point out that's the reason I never made the NHL!

don't start the silly 'you've never played hockey' nonsense.
every single player in the playoffs played through an injury.
i could give you a million examples of guys playing through injury but I am far too lazy.....so I'll leave you with one-steve Yzerman played without a knee and won a cup.
colborne will be a 3rd line centre at best....which leads me back to my point, the leafs have no number one centre and none in their system.

Wouldn't it just be easier to not trade for Bernier (and keep the assets), and hope that Reimer steps up and plays exceptional, or grab the #1 if he sucks?

Most likely scenario: they play completely average and we end up out of the playoffs but with a middle of the pack pick.

Fair Enough. Although I would personally put Bernier way above our young and unproven goalies.

His movement is much better than Reimer's and is more stable than Scrivens. He is small, but flexible. His challenging and positioning is better than any goalie we have. His ceiling is higher than any goalie we have by a long shot. His ability to stop the puck and control his rebounds is tenfolds better than Reimer's.

I love Reimer and i want to see him do well, but let's be realistic and rational. Unless he plays like he did the rest of his career like that 20-25 game stretch 2 seasons ago, we won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Also Bernier imo would cost less than Luongo, Gillis seems to be playing hardball when he doesn't really have much leverage...

yes i wouldn't mind that and that does make a lot of sense
but i think we can all agree bernier has a higher ceiling, its just whether or not he hits that is the wild factor in that

you make a good point though

No.

Bernier will cost.

Luongo will only come to Toronto if the price is very low.
