I hope Howson gets something good back from NYR. - Marc D
Dubinsky is a certain but the way Howson on was requesting so much, it should be McDonough and Stefan |

If Carle can get 6 million now, does that change the opinion of anyone who wasnt willing to sign Suter for 7+? Is that just the market now for defenseman? - funmaster18
No I still wouldnt sign him, but yea that it is just the market now. If Im going to splurge in the 7-8 mil range, theres only one Predator that I would sign. |

Colby Armstrong is being bought out by TOR. Will be on unconditional waivers at 12 noon ET.
Any interest as a bottom 6 guy? |

Nash makes $7.8 a year and the consensus is no one wants him for that.
Suter$7?
Carle $6?

Trade Carle's rights and bring in a cheap vet. Its not like we can send MAB down anyway. Might as well see if the Ducks will bite on Jake and Carle's rights. |

in a way, i think it makes a suter 7+ mil contract a bit more palatable. when quality d men are going for a lot less money, it definitely makes going all out for the top one seem like a big gamble. the smaller the gap between suter and the guys right behind him, the better you feel about signing him imo
still has to be a good fit within a team's salary structure, though. independent of what other people are signing for, so it doesn't change everything |

McDonough I would guess is one of their untouchables, the d man more likely to be Del Zotto |

No. He was bought out for good reason. When a player is bought out with one year left on his contract, stay far away.

I just hope this market is actually based on something, like real revenue/tv contracts, otherwise its just all funny money again. |

If Penner came at the right price would he be a good pickup? Provided jagr does not resign or Dolan can not be had? Put him with giroux and I am sure he gets 30 plus goals. Play similar role of jagr.

I agree
Still seems too high a cap figure when you have teams struggling in poor markets |

Seriously, just look at Brodeur and Doan...neither of them should hit the market. |

Souray already turned down $3M/ 1 yr from Dallas.

Well compared to the Pronger contract i don't see a problem to a 3 year deal with Doan. |

I'd keep an open mind. He'd be a risky pickup that could pay off or backfire. He's also no slam dunk to score 30 goals again, even with Giroux.

I think Kreider is probably untouchable, I wonder if the deal might be del Zotto, Dubinsky (for salary cap reasons) and Stepan and 1st rounder. Maybe even coax Erixson instead of the first rounder. |

That to me seems like too much for Nash, but good for Columbus if they can pull it off. |

If Carle does return to the Flyers for say 4.75M X 4-5 years, will he go from goat to hero in the eyes of all the haters?

Possibly, but apparently Howson was requesting JVR and Schenn or Coots in a proposal from the Flyers. Howson has up to this moment really kept the asking price high, I think he realizes if he gets hosed on the Nash deal, he will need to be updating his resume in the near future. |
