At this point it seems pretty clear that both Parise and Suter are not coming here. I think it might be time to actually start trying to improve our team instead of throwing 100 million dollars at two players that aren't going to come here. Start by signing Carle and then get a solid winger. Right now we have a lot of holes and I feel as if we are putting too many eggs in the Parise Suter basket - Phifly10
You still haven't provided any sources so Id say it's unclear until someone reputable like Dreger or McKenzie report the teams or until they sign. |

Maybe, maybe not.
Reagrdless, I don't see how it's pretty clear that we won't be getting either. No reports have indicated that. |

Robbing Peter to pay Paul again. Who replaces Meszaros then? Are we going to have Lilja/Gusty/MAB manning two spots on the blue line? - PLindbergh31
And it does further damage to this teams ability to play defense from a team aspect.

Sure they are, But 12 years 100 million to a guy that doesn't play overly physical, and benefited from being partners with the best defenseman on the planet is a VAST overpayment. I would rather give Carle 6 for 4 years.
I just done get blowing up the cap for either of these guys when you could get complimentary parts to shore up the team defense and be better off in the long run. Im thinking Cap wise, developmental wise.
It is just insanity, and frankly I have NO IDEA why the Flyers are even in on these guys. - MBFlyerfan
I think Suter is being penalized for playing with Weber. Suter was still playing great hockey when Weber was out of the lineup this year. I would rather have neither Parise, Suter or Carle for the asking price. Homer obviously doesnt agree with us though. |

from what I have been told: if it's strictly $$, Flyers get both Parise/Suter based on offers. - stveshdy
It will be amazing in an era where greed is at an all-time high if the Flyers get neither. I actually hope they don't get either based on those ridiculous contract offers.
But what does it say when the Flyers offer the most money and get turned down by the top two UFA's? |

By no means did I say that he signed, I was just stating my opinion that they have very little shot at getting him and we are wasting time on those players when we could have and should be trying to improve our team in other ways |

|
nope -- if they miss Suter, they will have Carle
Timonen - Carle/Suter
Grossmann - Coburn
Schenn - Gus - flyersfan51
Or could deal Jake for a d-man. Maybe Enstrom. |

The Flyers do usually get who they want.
See Briere, Roenick, Forsberg, Bryz, etc. |

Means that the Flyers are pretty arrogant and over value themselves as a market, especially when they are so fickle with the long contracts they hand out. |

Do you think it might be due to guys seeing the Flyers change course so often and trading guys off immediately after the sign long term deals? I think that is definitely a factor. |

Strickland says Devils still in on Parise. |

If they signed Suter/Parise, they'd be getting full NMC/NTCs so no. |

Or just that the other guys wanted to play somewhere else? That's the wonderful thing about free agency, the players get to choose where they want to go.
Trying to come up with reasons why, without being inside a players head, is absurd. Literally the only way of knowing why a player chooses a certain team is if they come out and say it. |

with that kind of money being thrown around, would you honestly just take top dollar if it meant a slight increase to the other offers?
if I was in their position, assuming the offers were reletively in the same ballpark... id have other things - like team fit, living situation, etc - higher up on the priority list.
you're talking about a decade+ of your life. |

I hope he signs with Minny actually. Would be good for the League imo. The big market teams don't have to always get all the stars. You don't want the NHL becoming baseball where the Yankees have bought 5 Championships. - PLindbergh31
I can understand that.
I also would not like it if both Suter and Weber leave Nashville. |

One thing is for sure where ever they sign they will have plenty of money for the rest of their lives. |

Yes...obviously it is the player's decision. But I do not think it is far-fetched to think the Flyers recent tendency to trade players who have just signed long contracts makes them less attractive to potential free agents |

Agreed, but very rarely do you see any athletes leave a penny on the table this day in age. The agents are slime. |

Works both ways. They'll do whatever it takes to ice the best team. I don't think it's far fetched to think that would be appealing to some players.
And again, there's so much that goes into this stuff, that it's almost pointless to speculate. Even if one player is adamant about not playing here cause of the 3 big trades, that doesn't have any bearing on the next player. Or the one after that.
Bobby Ryan would apparently love to play here.

Supposedly Garrison left money on the table to go play close to home in Vancouver.
I think home and family count for a lot with these guys. |
