If there were gigantic holes in his game, the Flyers wouldn't have signed him to be the backup. I trust the Flyers scouting in that regard. I think far too much is being made of Bryzgalov's emotional stability. He didn't get to where he is by being weak mentally. There were a few players available who were better choices, but they signed with other teams. - MJL
I'd trust Flyers Scouting to be able to pick an elite NHL Power Forward out at a Delivery ward. I'd trust them to know a good Defensemen after 1-2 years after they are drafted. However, I would not trust them to know the difference between a fully developed NHL goaltender and a hole in the ground.
As far as Bryzgalov's Stability. I do think people make a big deal of it affecting his game. He is a great goaltender, and I don't worry about his emotions and his play. I worry that he is going to get fed up with the media and fans during a bad spell and publically say "Trade me right F'n Now!" It's the off-ice stuff we would be foolish not to plan for. Also factoring in injuries and the normal problems goalies have, we should not take the Backup role lightly.
As far as better choices signing with other teams, Leighton was the first signing of the day... He said they had a deal before FA day started. How long did they look? They signed Leighton cause he was the easy signing and they wanted to concentrate on the big fish.

j-bo's contract would expire right in time for the flyers to pay giroux, schenn, and couturier. so that's a plus.....
and this type of deal is the only way i'm even considering bouwmeester. doubt it's possible, though |

If Jarg bolts, would Hudler be attractive to anyone, also if Carle leaves or is priced out of our range I look to Carlo Colaiacovo for a short deal maybe - Pat MaGroin

Let Parise sign with Pittsburgh. Just as long as the Flyers knock them out in the playoffs again, I'll be content. - Pixote Andolini
agreed. |

CC would be a good, cheap alternative to Carle. I'd prefer a trade though. |

Signing bonuses absolutely count against the Cap. All a signing bonus is, is money up front. Say if a player signs a deal that calls for 10M in salary for the first year with an 8M signing bonus. All that means is that the player get's 8M of the 10M paid upfront. Not in addition to the 10M. - MJL
ah ok now that makes sense. is there a max signing bonus allowed? |

I think your sellig them short. If some fans think they know better then the Flyers, then more power to them. I'm not concerned at all about the media or any other things like that. I ythink Bryzgalov learned from his experiences last Season and will be fine. Teams have a good understanding of the landscape and what's goign to be available, well before July 1. They signed Leighton because they thought it was the right move considering all the circumstances involved. If you think they chose him because it was easy, then I don't know what to tell you there. |

Suter is a better player. But there's no way it's not even close. It is close. The only area where Suter is significantly better is on the PP. All other areas they're comparable. I'd give Suter the edge defensively. But not by a lot.
And I know one thing for sure. Suter isn't a player that you should be signing to a 10 or 12 year deal for 80-100M. That's insane.
Here's a comparable player to Suter and his contract.

Theres more to the game then just numbers. Not going to get into a debate about it. We are allowed to disagree on a players worth. Different opinions. |

I actually hope Parise ends up with the Wild, the twin cities is a great hockey market. I think Ryan will be the target next, I'm not as concerned as others with d simply because I think MAB or any of the other kids can continue to gain experience and be a very contributor on the third pairing this year. Maybe they resign Carle, and trade assets on the current roster for Ryan. I'm just not as down on the young guys already in the organization to play minutes on the third pairing. |

To trade Bobby Ryan, the Ducks want a few pieces, including a 2nd line center. |

It is suprising because high school and college hockey is really huge in that area. I know they have a strong base of season ticket holders. |
