At some point, I think something needs to happen to protect themselves from themselves. The League, and the Owners wanted a Cap to keep salaries in check. Well who's making all these huge offers to UFA's. It seems as though some Owners are writing blank checks. And Brian Burke has it right when he say to put it in my own words. That some of his peers are out of control and are hurting the League. - MJL
You know what's also hurting the league? The Toronto market not seeing the light of playoff day in over 8 years |

Go bout 28 minutes in this is a Minnesota radio station with former Minnesota GM Lou Nanne on KFAN feeling the Flyers are a team to fear in signing Parise. (take it at face value, just an opinion)

If he signs with the Flyers, I'll be psyched.
Then we'll play the agonizing game of "repercussions". |

I don't think it's needed & might set in motion another waive of moves just to make it work. |

Not to mention the flood of Pens and Devils fans who will say how the Flyers vastly overpaid (actually probably right) and he's a guy who will break down in few years. |

I don't know what to think anymore. I know I won't be upset if giroux doesn't hit 90 pts at the expense of getting this team to play some serious team D. Doan and Carle and call it a day |

Agreed. It's such a double edged sword. I said it in some of my other posts. He's a hell of a player...great 2 way forward...he'd be awesome here. But what's awesomer? (Yes. Awesomer. Deal with it.) Parise sans Carle, maybe Voracek, and maybe Mezsaros, or the team now (provided re-signings)?
I choose the latter. Parise's good, but we'd have to give to get him. I think in the end we'd not only give him too much money, but we'd give too much to squeeze him in. |

And Voracek long term. |

Parise isn't what's needed. Ideally, Suter, resign Vorcek and upgrade the 4th line. if the can make Doan work in there add him in. You could definalty do Carle, Doan, resign Voracek and upgrade the 4th line. |

I understand, just by what the Flyers are doing right now, they seem to want to find a better winger for G then Jagr. As much as Ryan has whined, from a cap stand point he isn't going to kill the team like Parise and Nash. I really don't think the organization wants to rely on Jagr surviving another 82 game schedule and then start the playoff grind. I don't think they get Parise in my opinion. - ravishingone
Don't forget about Doan. Since, he's a UFA - he's higher on my list than Ryan. I'm not so worried about Ryan cap hit, than what goes the other way in the trade. Doan might be equal or less than Ryan's hit. |
|
|
|
It would be real tight, but let's see.
Don+Carle = $10 million.
Voracek say $3.25 so we're at 13.25-10.8 available leaves about 2.45 over, but you would dump Shelly's $1.1 since he's no longer top 12 so it's $1.35. You've got all Summer to make a fit. Maybe the CBA allows the bonus money not to be counted. It's so close Homer could swing it.

Doan may not even be available if the Coyotes are going to stay in Arizona, which is why he's waiting until the 9th to do anything. I believe the Jamison ownership issue is decided on the 8th.

Doan is 35 and wants 4 years. He plays a very rough game. Not interested in the slightest. |

Limited injuries over the years... He's been an iron man. Although, 4 yrs is a lot. I do 3 yrs - heavy the first too years (if he gets hurt or just too slow the last year - he could retire with most of his money). And, if not, Doan would be a UFA the same year Ryan becomes a UFA. |

Yeah, spoke with 2 guys today that really know hockey and they think the Flyers need to add another DMan and a solid 3rd line two way or Defensive forward and upgrade the 4th line.

decide how you want to play...provide the resources for superior drafting at all positions...coach'em up...see how it goes and make adjustments....
that's how you stay out of the annual profligacy we see every year. once in a while, when a team needs that final piece, it's certainly justifiable to splurge, but what we see here is nuts.
I'd much rather hear about how the flyers are spending hundreds of thousands to upgrade their scouting staff in order to save tens of millions wasted squandering assets and making bad trades because of the latest cap fix they're in. - isaiah520
Because even the teams that are said to have great scouting, and who some want the Flyers to emulate, like the Detroit Red Wings, aren't bidding on any high priced Free Agents such as Parise and Suter.
If the Flyers are in a Cap fix, how are they able to get involved in bidding for the top players available?

I still dont like it. We have too much dead cap space as it is. I really dont want to give out any more over 35 contracts unless its completely necessary. |

So ek says Parise is down to Chi Pit NJ and Suter is down to Detroit and Nashville
Did these two (frank) up the offseason plans |

Flyers aren't close to a cap fix. they have 7+ million after resigning Voracek with a full roster. That givesw them $14 million for the Summer. With at least $4.9 of space in season and $10.5 comig off the books next year in Timo and Hartnell.

First ek is wrong more times than not. Second if this is true the Flyers will look to make moves via trade IMO. - stveshdy
I completely agree, but the flyers missed out on some potential free agent signings that would have helped the team a good amount because they are waiting for some decisions. |

None of us know that. Nobody knows who the Flyers have made offers to, and the players chose to go somewhere else.

Just curious, who you think we missed out on? Some guys I liked are gone but with these prices I honestly dont too feel bad about missing out. I agree with your point tho. The Wild are the team that are getting hurt the most waiting in my opinion. |
