The likely order for Suter is IMHO:
1. Detroit
2. Minnesota
3. Philly
Don't see any other big suitors unless Nashville gets in the mix.
Parise I honestly couldn't order. It's anyone's game amongst those aforementioned 3 + Pittsburgh.
Reports indicated that Pittsburgh did not make an offer for Suter. |

Carle is about to get paid. I know there was an article about how close Suter and Carle are in comparison but I would take Suter anyday over Carle. Suter is a legitimate first pairing defenseman. He's not Chara or Weber but hes definately one of the better defenseman in this league. Hes an all star caliber player. - stveshdy
agreed....and Garrison getting 4.6 a year
Suter - Timonen
Grossmann - Coburn
Mesz - Schenn |

The longer it takes the better it is for Philly. We weren't even on Suters list and it's a hard pill to swallow for Zach likely since it's, well, Philly. When you go to buy a car you've checked out online already, you don't waste your time mulling it over unless a better option potentially became available. Hope this goes till Thursday. |

Kind of expect Suter to go to Detroit with the vacancy left by Lidstrom retiring. Money talks however.. if we bid the most as reported.. we may win this.
Also, I expect that if Suter signs, Homer takes the offer for Parise off the table. For some reason..I can envision Suter signing and Parise going elsewhere.. not the reverse. |

Dave Molinari confirmed the Pens made Suter an offer. Word is however, they don't feel they can compete with other offers. Probably Parise or nothing for us. |

Everyone is basing their opinions of Leighton off of their bitter taste about losing in the Cup. Leighton is absolutely a serviceable backup goalie. Absolutely no issues with him being Bryz's backup. - Flyers2821
Talent-wise, Leighton is better than a good number for the back-ups currently under contract in the NHL -- at the AHL level, he's a star netminder.
The problem has always been that he's much less effective in a backup role where he sees sporadic action, which has led to his inability to ever nail down that role at the NHL level.
It's no coincidence that the only instances where he's been able to shine have been when he's been thrust into the starting role, where he has the chance play often and get in a groove.
I really wouldn't be surprised to see him either get beat outright in camp by Hovinen or a PTO invite, or, see the Flyers end up bringing someone else in during the season when Leighton's game starts to fall apart. |

Its also about accepting your role. Bob never accepted being a backup. Leighton does.
Again, if you are going to get in to maybe 15 games this year, who is the better backup? Bob Or Leighton?
I don't really see Bob being happy playing 15 games do you? As I said there are many things that factor in to it. - MBFlyerfan
I don't recall hearing dissent from Bobrovsky, but it's kind of a moot point to me. Sergei wasn't so effective in that role, and I prefer the value we got (and sending him somewhere he'll actually play and grow), not to mention the saved cap space. Either one, in that role, would only been as good as the team defense anyhow. |

I also wonder if Chris Mason or another NHL level backup would sign here knowing they would only play maybe 15 games?

Mason probably would've. He'll probably play less with Rinne in front of him. |

I have similar concerns regarding his play as a backup, however, I'm hoping his reportedly excellent rapport with Reese can help make a difference in that role. |

Considering that Leighton was, again, offered an extension before July 1, it doesn't appear that there were any other options considered by the Flyers.
With that said, with how flaky Bryz was last season, if I were a 1A kind of guy, signing with the Flyers would be a great chance to maybe steal the starter's job and play behind a great club. |

The Flyers have a $100-million deal on the table for Ryan Suter per @TSNBobMcKenzie. Looks like they are trying to address D to me…
If your Suter this offer is almost impossible to turn down. What other team is even close to that offer? |

Technique-wise, I think the Reese relationship will help, especially if they've gotten him to stop defaulting to that Vertical-Horizontal stance that burned him on the Cup winning goal.
On the mental side, some guys are just better starters than relievers, and some guys are just better starters than backups. I'm not sure if there's anything that Reese can do to change that. |

The signing of Leighton is also a show of confidence in Bryzgalov. Perhaps, psychologically, it'll be a benefit.

i would think DET has a close offer, and Suter says he wants to play in the west -- but money talks and if his best friend Parise signs with PHI then he'll take money and sign with PHI.....but I think they both end up in DET or PITT |

If Bryz goes down for half a season, would you rather have Chris Mason in net for 40 games, or Leighton? |
