I think part of his pay raise is the effect the cap floor creates though. Jagr is a pretty easy guy to overpay for 1 year to help get to the floor. - eayost
The impact he will have on the young kids will be great as well. Even if his performance drops off.
In 20 years when Claude Giroux is retired and is being asked questions about his career, he is going to be pointing back to the year he played with Jaromir Jagr as the launching point. As will several players on the Dallas Stars. |

Did you really want him to sign back here anyways? His play clearly dropped off down the stretch and in the playoffs he vanished. - Flyers2821
He won't have to worry about the playoffs in big D, cause they ain't going. So in all, it's a huge raise on per games played basis. He can resume huffing around the rink at midnight with his weighted vests and ankle pads.

Thought he had some nice games against Pitt, and afterwards was pretty obvious he was injured. That's the risk of having a 40 year old in your top 6 though. - eayost
So did you want him to come back? |

+1, but I'll take Suter and Voracek. Then try to upgrade the 3rd or 4th line.

The reports are the Flyers have the highest offers for both players for what it's worth.
I don't really want to break the bank for them either, but what's the alternative? Paying Matt Carle 6 million a year? Screw that |

Maybe thats why they hesitate to come here. Flyers will always ice a good reg season team but will always lack a long term perspective (actually keeping those late first round forwards wonders after they sign them or grooming D men from the farm) or pay attention to some of the less flashy issues (team D instead of individual stats, making the Briere line more balanced instead of shifting him all over the place with bad defensive forwards) that produces success deep in the playoffs. They will create a splash, then fail, then throw more money. On and on it will go.
Yeah why give Jake 4 mil when we can get wreck the house by giving Nash or Prise 8? After all, why would we need a durable, strong, young player who was one of the best forwards in the playoffs, made the pp very dangerous by his movement on the right side, and is perhaps our best defensive top 6 forward? Who down the line could become a much better goal scorer? Nah, trade him! We want proven stars who we sign to huge deals or by giving way young assets: see how well it has worked out for us in the last 15 years!
Already G is the "best player in the world" ((frank)ing absurd). Soon, we will Mike Richards him. Hive him the C, put an overly huge burden on his young shoulders, tear him to pieces when an inevtiable slump arrives (how will two wrist surgeries affect him I wonder...). A huge contract and then trade will undoubtedly follow.
As for Lavy, enjoy your last year in Philly. - PT21

does dallas need to get to the floor? - hammarby31
Yes. Will still have to re-sign Benn and their other RFAs to get above floor, though. |

starting to think that the flyers could use a sniper on the wing almost as much as the upgrade on D. |

neither of those guys are coming here, and that's a good thing b/c i don't want the flyers ripping apart the team to deal with these guys. i'd rather take a stab at weber next year. he won't sign an offer sheet b/c nashville will just match and then he's stuck.
if carle ends up at 6 million, he can go elsewhere. we've already got the most money committed to defense and that's a terrible thing given how bad they were at times during the year, and especially the playoffs. |

They didn't HAVE to give him so much to get there, but they're still a bit below with just a couple roster sports left. Jagr may put some fans in the seats too. He may be 40, but people know who he is, Texas or not. |

It sounds crazy but I have always respected everything about the way the Detroit Redwings evaluate talent and acquire certain players. They seem to always hit homeruns with their moves.
The fact that they are all in on Suter like they are... gives me confidence in making a monster offer to Suter to bring him here.
Crazy logic? Maybe |

Carle at 6 million would be a disaster, IMO. He's just too soft for that kind of $. I'd stick with Bourdon at the 6 at that point.

Makes tons of sense to me, but can't you see Holmgren doing something desperate after losing out on the top two prizes? Patience isn't exactly one of Snider's virtues. The guy wants to win another Cup more than anything before he leaves this Earth. |

you can afford Suter and Voracek this year and still afford Weber next year with Hartnell and Timo coming off the books.
Weber/Coburn
Suter/Grossman
Meszaros/Schenn
That would be sick.

i have no interest in Suter. Parise I would take. I want Ryan, but not with the assets we have left. I would have traded JVR there, and maybe Homer tried that. Right now, we just need to sign a UFA forward, maybe another dman and call it good. |

People keep using the phrase "ripping apart the team" or "tearing the team apart" when referring to the offers to Parise and Suter...
I mean the way I look at it... if they land one of Parise or Suter, they are getting a tremendous player without having to give up any assets. How is that tearing the team apart?
Not following this logic... please elaborate? |
