this is a little off topic or maybe irrelevant, but wouldn't some players think about winning first and take a lower priced contract in order to let the team spend the money on other talent to help them win? - flyersfan51
you would think that is the case but it's not
-agent's job is to get the most money for his client
-players job is to get the most money out of the team to help fellow free agents
-owners try to put together a team with the money they have but at times outbid themselves and others.
I've read stories of some players re-signing before the FA time and the NHLPA was upset with them because they signed for under market value.
It's a business...all about the money |

I agree -- Do you think that the flyers already have a trade worked out if they miss out (which I think they do) on Parise/Suter? I bet they have a trade for Ryan and a deal for Carle (please let it be under 5) and will be announced right after Parise signs with Minnesota. - flyersfan51
I think Carle comes in a 5.5. And I don't now if they did, but probably not considering the deals for Parise and Suter sitting out there, I would rather they had already made an offer to Doan, and maybe someone like Burish (signed by San Jose) or Prust (signed by the Habs)
Those guys are gone now because the Flyers are sitting there with their thumbs up their asses.
All this waiting goes on, in the meantime, other teams are improving by signing the glue guys and defensive players the Flyers ACTUALLY need.

"The Decision Part 2" probably won't be announced until Friday. We need more time to decide which ridiculous offer to accept. I'm tired of waiting and I'm sure the Flyers are to. Flyers will have to decide what the next move will be incase these two clowns decide to sign elsewhere. - stveshdy
The interesting part about it is... they may be tired of waiting but if they bail on the Parise/Suter deals.. everything else is still going to be at a standstill until the Parise/Suter deals go down.
I honestly think everyone is perfectly fine waiting because they know nothing else is going to happen anyways. |

If they acquire Bobby Ryan after this saga, are you going to care they didnt sign Burish or Prust? Nope.
Be patient. If you think the Flyers just have these offers extended with no back up plan... you are crazyy |

Exactly, except maybe the Sabres if you believe the rumors that they got impatient with Anaheim and pulled the trigger on the Ott deal as a result.
The dominoes WILL fall after ZP/RS make their decisions, and guys like Yandle, Nash, Ryan, Enstrom, JayBo, etc. could be on the move fairly quickly.
Also, if we miss out on RS, it appears that St. Louis is our biggest competition for Carle. They may also look to Calgary for a trade for JayBo. They're by all accounts after another blue-liner though. |

Did anyone see Parise's interview yesterday. He looked lost, confused, and not to with it.
I don't think money is the issue here. I think he is relying on his support system and needs buy in from people close to him. Where to live. Schools maybe for future mites. Family. Friends. Etc.
For those reasons, I don't see him coming to the Flyers. Not a bad thing.
I don't know the poster, but I do sense (and just a gut) that Ryan is coming here. What's interesting however is that Anaheim should be in no hurry to move Ryan, as he is signed. Can you imagine that franchise losing Ryan and then potentially its two other forwards as FA's? Interesting.

How would making either of those signings tear anything apart? - Flyers2821
we'd have to make moves to fit those guys in. remember, we have our RFAs to deal w/. if we signed them both, it's obvious what would have to occur, but I don't think we'll get either guy.
I'm surprised my schen bros + for Kane and bogo didn't draw some comments...prob cause it'll never happen. |

That part about aquiring ryan is that you have to replace the pieces yuo traded to get him.
a lot of those types of players have been taken already.
a deal for ryan may have to wait until the season starts to see if some new youg guys in the system can fill those gaps. |

Yea I mean... it's not like the Flyers are just sitting in their offices staring at the phone waiting for a call on the deals. They are definitely laying the foundation for potential trades and FA signings once the big deals are made.
This whole notion that they are just sitting on their hands doing nothing is just foolish. |

Have you ever been to St. Louis? No offense to anyone, but it sucks. I think Carle, if he had brain matter, would re-sign here. |

There has been grumblings that Svboda is insiting on a heavy contract for Jake, in the region of $4+ million and that they aren't close to a deal with the Flyers.
If they deal for Ryan, you'd have to think he'd be involved. Jake, [insert prospect here- Laughton/Cousins?], plus picks would be my guess.

1st in the nation in crime. I'm very much aware.
Noentheless, if Carle's agent sways him to sign with the team offering the most money, then he probably won't be back regardless of whether or not we land RS. |

Yes I will care. I don't want Bobby Ryan because the cost is too high. Ryan does NOTHING to address the Flyers issues. He is just another shiny toy that weakens this team defensively. And will further weaken them defensively if any of the deals are rumored to be true. IE Voracek/Read, Mezzy, and first round pick.
Bobby Ryan is over rated. He is NOT what this team needs.

If RS returns to Nashville, then Detroit and St. Louis will get into a bidding war for Carle.
Our best bet at retaining him would be if RS went to Detroit. |

It would appear the Flyers are losing both JVR AND Jagr at this point. Someone needs to take the pressure off of Giroux. Adding a front-line winger makes us a better team, and is a priority IMO.
Ryan is a potential 40+ goal power forward, a very rare player to find. There's only a handful of these kind of players in the league, and he would be a great addition to the club. Ryan has a proven track record too.
Meszy won't be dealt anyways if Carle is not retained, so don't worry there. |

You my friend, are wrong. Bobby Ryan definitely is not overrated. He would score 35-40+ goals a season playing with Giroux. They would be an absolute force for years.
At this point, you have no idea what the cost for Bobby Ryan is.
What do you see as the Flyers issues? gritty 3rd line wingers? Come on now.
They have an offer out there for the best d-man on the market, and the highest offer on the table. They clearly are trying to adress their need on defense. If they can't, acquiring Bobby Ryan and upgrading the offense would be a tremendous move.
Don't under estimate the impact a pairing of Giroux-Ryan would have on the entire team. |

Walk away...Carle isn't worth that money. I rather go in another direction |

Getting Giroux his Kurri is something I very much approve of, and I believe it will make us a better hockey club.
Now, I understand fixing the team defense is also VERY important, but with guys like Moore and other valuable grinders still on the market, that can be addressed too. |

Obviously we don't know, but without a guarantee that he wants to be at another club l-t could deter teams from offering more. He certainly has stated his desire to land in Philly.
Just something else to consider. |

The thing is.. THERE ARE NO D-MEN OUT THERE TO UPGRADE THE DEFENSE. The same people saying we shouldn't trade for Bobby Ryan because we need defense are the same people pissed off about the Suter offer and saying they don't want to overpay Carle.
All the d-men on the market were overpaid this year. |
