You my friend, are wrong. Bobby Ryan definitely is not overrated. He would score 35-40+ goals a season playing with Giroux. They would be an absolute force for years.
At this point, you have no idea what the cost for Bobby Ryan is.
What do you see as the Flyers issues? gritty 3rd line wingers? Come on now.
They have an offer out there for the best d-man on the market, and the highest offer on the table. They clearly are trying to adress their need on defense. If they can't, acquiring Bobby Ryan and upgrading the offense would be a tremendous move.
Don't under estimate the impact a pairing of Giroux-Ryan would have on the entire team. - Flyers2821
You are wrong. Gritty third line winger is exactly what they need. And they need another hammer on defense (Provided they keep Carle)
I am perfectly fine with keeping Voracek/Read/Mezzy and allowing them to grow rather than trading a big nut for a forward who plays no defense and will probably offset any goal production he makes by being on the ice for goals against. Don't forget that Giroux is not the best defensive forward either, those two on the ice would be a defensive nightmare if they get caught in their own zone.
What do you see as the Flyers issues? Scoring? Come on now.
You say I have no idea what the cost for Bobby Ryan is? Apparently you do?
Enlighten me on what EA Sports tells you. |

I can't speak for anyone as an individual, but I think it is a little over the top to suggest all small-town guys are only concerned with nice suburbs. I'm not rich, but I try to take advantage of all the features of Phildelphia that I mentioned in my previous post. I'm not sure I see the logic in a guy trying to squeeze every dollar he can make just so he can shelter himself in a house and not take advantage of those $$ in the outside world.
However, as you mentioned, the location of a guy's family, or even more importantly, his wife's family, can play into a decision strongly. - Daman
Yup. See the Pronger fiasco in Edmonton as a great example. |

so because one guy won't instantly fix all of the flyers d woes they should just forget about the issue? if matt read goes with voracek for ryan the flyers would be giving up two forwards that are both more defensively responsible than ryan. i don't hate the idea of trading for ryan, but i don't like the idea of selling the farm for him. and don't say "they aren't trading schenn or couturier"... that's not the issue. trading one of them would be retarded
i'd rather just sign doan - FlyerMike18
Giving up Read and Voracek for Ryan are FAR from giving up the farm. Far from it. |

There has been grumblings that Svboda is insiting on a heavy contract for Jake, in the region of $4+ million and that they aren't close to a deal with the Flyers.
If they deal for Ryan, you'd have to think he'd be involved. Jake, - LordStanley88[insert prospect here- Laughton/Cousins?], plus picks would be my guess.
you would have to sweeten the pot because jake might not want to play in anaheim. I'd so rather pay 5.1 to Bobby Ryan than 4 for Jake. |

I stll don't see how Hudler warranted the same contract as PA Parentau given their respective seasons, so, no, I don't like the deal for the Flames, especially when they could've re-signed Jokinen for a less total amount. |

Where did I say I knew what the cost for Bobby Ryan would be? You are just assuming they would have to trade half the team to get him. Which could very well not be the case with an unhappy guy who wants to be traded.

the NHL on the Fly crew showed a stat where he has something like the 4th best plus/minus over the last so many years. I only half heard it while getting ready for work - nastyflyergirl
Top 3 were Sedin twins and Burrows. Datsyuk was 5th. I would say he's at the very least responsible defensively with this fact.

Giving up Read and Voracek for Ryan are FAR from giving up the farm. Far from it. - Flyers2821
But it is 45 goals and better defensive play by a mile. Team defense is the MAJOR issue for this team, adding Ryan creates a hole on offense, and hurts them defensively. |

it's more than i'd be willing to trade
not to mention "throwing in" MAB, laughton, first round picks etc.....
if he comes relatively cheap, fine. otherwise it's a pointless move |

I'm sure I'm going to get heat for this eternal optimism, but last year when they traded Richards and Carter, the thought was "where will the offense come from" and low and behold we got it.
Now Flyers are faced with a defensive challenge, albeit a much smaller question (6th d-man). Why in the world would you mess up / break up a young nucleus or put yourself in salary cap hell for one player? I just don't get it.
Sign Voracek + Carle, run with Jagr or Doan and give MAB/ Gus a shot @ 6 dman.
Let Giroux, Coots, Schenn x2, Read, Simmonds, Voracek grow together. |

If you sign Carle, then MAB/Gus become your 7th d-man. |

Did anyone see Parise's interview yesterday. He looked lost, confused, and not to with it.
I don't think money is the issue here. I think he is relying on his support system and needs buy in from people close to him. Where to live. Schools maybe for future mites. Family. Friends. Etc.
For those reasons, I don't see him coming to the Flyers. Not a bad thing.
I don't know the poster, but I do sense (and just a gut) that Ryan is coming here. What's interesting however is that Anaheim should be in no hurry to move Ryan, as he is signed. Can you imagine that franchise losing Ryan and then potentially its two other forwards as FA's? Interesting. - Daman
Here we go again. Just like no one want to play in Detroit because it's such a horrible place to live. I doubt that has anything to do with his decision. There are nice suburbs around all major markets.

Ryan is under a reasonable contract for the next three years. I don't see him leveraging himself out of Anaheim on the cheap because of a bit of whining. |

i wonder where he stands right now. would he be interested in signing an extension and cashing in while his value is high or does he risk another 09-10 and see if he's got another year like 11-12 in him? |
|

Let me clarify, I have no problem with simply minor tweaks this off-season. I want to keep the core in tact.
However, if an intriguing offer for Ryan presents itself, then I think Homer should bite.
Reagrdless, I'm not moving 10 or 14 for anyone not named Weber. |

I'm not assuming anything. I am going by the numerous reports I have read on the subject over the past three weeks. The deals have either been ridiculous over payments (Voracek, Mezzy and 2 firsts) to deals that Anaheim would laugh at (Read, Bourdon, and a pick.)
It might be somewhere in the middle. But I also don't like the deals because somehow people are acting as if the Flyers are dealing from a position of weakness here. They don't need Ryan, yet some are willing to trade these ridiculous parts to get him.
This team needs a big defensive forward and team defense. Scoring will not be a problem. If you say they need him to replace JVR and Jagr offensively that means they need to replace 30 goals. I think between Shenn, Couturier, Read, Simmonds and Voracek...who we already have on the roster, they will score 30 more combined between the five of them....And since one of them will be moving up to fill that wing role, you need a defensive presence to replace them on the third line.

He won't come "cheap", but at the same time I don't think Murray is going to get the haul he seeks either.
Jake, MAB, Laughton/Cousins, and a 1st is a pretty nice pacakge IMO. |
