Ducks want a center (likely 2nd line), a young winger and prospect or high pick for Ryan. Eventually, someone will step up. - cor99
That would have to be Grabo,Kadri and a 1st rounder for Ryan.

Yeah, in the AHL.
Do you expect him to shutdown other teams lines in his first season? - jbold
I would feel confident having him on the 5-6 pairing. As long as that means Komi is not in the lineup. |

Which would probably work but would be terrible for us since we would have absolutely no decent centermans at all anymore We will be the team without ANY CENTERMANS |

do you have any better ideas - Mapleleafs_91
Yeah. Next time when you make imaginary trades, don't tell people to blame Burke for you not improving our D in your imaginary team. |

And that's what scares me. For all this talk about the Leafs' supposed depth on the back end, it's a funny jigsaw puzzle without great solutions.
Phaneuf is obviously the #1 guy. In terms of talent, Liles is #2. But is that a great fit? Probably not.
So it goes to Gunnarson by default.
OK, Phaneuf - Gunnarson as #1 pairing.
Then Liles with who at #2? I don't think Gardiner is ready. Franson? No.
Oh, Lord, it may just have to be Komisarek.
Then Gardiner and whomever as the 3rd pairing.
Phaneuf - Gunnarson
Liles - Komi
Gardiner - Franson
Wow, that's underwhelming. - Atomic Wedgie
I would say the Leafs are deep on defense, but I don't love the top end talent. I don't like Phaneuf as a #1. I see him as a 2-3 guy.

I thought our defence was stacked? i thought we had so much D that we can trade away What happened to that?
Shove rielly in the line up who cares, plus acquire luongo he can bail us out the occasional nights |

Gunnarsson is on the top pair, and is the best "shutdown" guy on the team at the moment. He logs huge minutes. Holzer doesn't replace that. No one on the team does.
Holzer is a 5-6 Dman. That's his upside. - Brian Huddle
gunnarsson is ridiculously under-rated whereas people keep going on and on about the marvels of the magical, mystical luke schenn.

Stasny> kulimen
Stewart>kulimen - Mapleleafs_91
Yeah true. But i think i'd give Kadri the chance at centre.
Lupul Kadri Kessel
JVR Grabbo Mac
Kulemin McClement Frattin
would be better than
Lupul Stastny Kessel
JVR Grabbo Stewart
Frattin McClement Kadri
Wait, what, no hold on. Yo u're right. Sorry carry on |

Assuming Luongo either ends up staying in Van (unlikely), or is traded to FLA.......One would have to think you either overpay for Bernier, or trade for Jose Theodore.
Bernier is a wild card and would cost significant prospects/roster players.
Theodore showed last year he is still a capable goalie who can hold down the fort, and probably wouldn't cost that much
For me 1) get Luongo
2) Go after Theodore after FLA lands Luongo
3) Throw our hands up in the air and wave them like we just dont care

Dion is a top pairing Dman playing with a number 3-4 guy.
He needs a legit partner.
Imagine getting that and pushing Gunnarsson down to the 2nd pairing where he belongs?
That'd be great. |

Theodore would do the trick. One year to see if Reimer can bounce back in a 50/50 split. |
