Agreed.
I know there is a lot of hate for Wilson, but I watched a lot of Leaf games this year and you'd have a hard time blaming Wilson for everything when he didn't recieve NHL goaltending on most nights. Nothing against the leaf roster as a whole, but they simply aren't strong enough to overcome some of those goals. Deflating goals. Doesn't matter if a timeout is called or not, if every time you ramp up to score and pressure, and attack, and pressure and then it comes back in your own zone and they shoot and its in, its hard to regroup. Maybe once, maybe twice, but after a while, it feels like an uphill battle.
If the Leafs had average goaltending last year, they probably added points in the double digits. The goaltending letdowns are the major factor into the Leafs failures last year. Everything else is just secondary. There is a readon why the expression "find me a good coach and I'll show you a good goaltender" is around. Its because it is true. - Lohaus

Moving Gunnarsson right now will rip a hole in the Leafs D the size of Texas.

Disagree.
With the emergence of Gardiner, Liles could be moved. Komisarek leaving would be a bonus to the defense.. and the part of trading Schenn that worries me is more ice-time for Captain HandGrenade - Komisarek.
If the Leafs moved Komisarek - Holzer steps right in, which is a total Win-Win.
If Liles was was moved, the left side of the defense would be Gunnarson, Gardiner and Lashoff or Mark Fraser. Or Phaneuf moves to the left and makes space for Blacker.
There are options.
And please don't anyone spew the stuff about leadership and experience. The defense has been unstable with the experience of Komisarek, Beauchemin, Liles etc in it. The younger guys won't don't much if any worse.
