If the ducks don't keep their big line together they're beyond stupid, unless of course they get the kings ransom they would want for either two of those players.
You're absolutely right too. There just are not a lot available at center right now, unless you are willing to overpay, pick up a really bad contract, or roll the dice on someone. If you want to look back at previous mistakes you could probably say we should have offered more for Kyle Turris, or the previous year, when everyone said we could land Weiss.
Right now stastny might be available but we would have to overpay!
given the fact we have question marks everywhere except right wing, I wouldn't mind standing pat and seeing if the current group can get the job done. If not, we could get better return deadline day and next years draft looks sick! - ky678468
Your right, if the ducks dont keep getzlaf and perry, there team is pretty much done. They need to keep those guys but i know bobby ryan is being traded for sure even though i doubt he would be traded to the leafs
Going on... Stasny if available and at the right price i would take? Maybe include some defenders for him, prospect, a forward? Not a big prospect though like a kadri or something. Remember stasny has a big contract and looks like a ribeiro type scenario he wont cost that much as people are saying but on the other hand the AVS dont have to trade him because they have so much money unless they acquire the "needs" of their team and thats probably on defence.
Dubinsky would be a good plug in for the leafs if they have absolutely no solutions for their number one center role, i personally think dubi is better than bozak. Hes 6'1 210 pounds big bodied guy who is fully capable of scoring 20 goals and reaching 50-60 pt season surely.
Patrick Berglund seems like a really streaky player and not consistent at all, i dont know what minutes hes given in st louis but seems to be hot and cold every other season... Hes a big bodied guy at 6'4 215 pounds, would you take the gamble on him? |

Flyers have more depth at forward than the Leafs. But a lot of flyers fans were pissed they didn't get more than just Schenn for JVR... - Big_Lightnin
Weird, most of the comments I saw were that they aren't going to miss him because he's inconsistent and soft. But okay, if you say so. |

That's probably something else I should have mentioned: I was pro tanking for the last few years. Had we done it when we should have we could have been in a position to draft or trade up to draft any of: B. Schenn, Kane, Duchene, Tavares (trade up long shot), Seguin (obviously), Skinner, there were a few good ones in 2011 as well and this year Galchenyuk would have been available too.
Obviously couldn't have got all of them but even one or two of them would have been a massive improvement upon what we have at this time and what we drafted in those spots. I like L. Schenn but I'd much rather have Duchene and we actually were in position to draft him (hell, we were in position to draft Doughty) until they had a meaningless late season push. - deerow84
WEll now that's a completely different conversation. Yes, they were close to being bad enough to draft very highly in several of the last 6-7 drafts. Sadly it didn't work out that way.
But given where the Leafs ended up drafting, they didn't really miss out on anybody who would have made sense picking where they picked. as I said - maybe you can say Eberle, but a player who goes 22nd or whatever should not be a top 5 pick.
Can't scout heart unfortunately... |

@deerow84
If u watched the draft or listened to the insiders and
gms they all where saying you never pick based on needs ...
No where in my post did I say The schenn deal was a slam dunk I said I thought it was a good deal
And I also don't say the aulie deal was a great deal I said It made sense base on a NEED ( u should like that) they needed size up front |

Based on Franson,Holzer,Kulemin and Scrivens signing. Barring no trades, it looks like our depth chart would fall to place like this:
Lupul Bozak Kessel
JVR Grabovski Frattin
MacArthur Connolly Kadri
Steckel McClement Kulemin
Lombardi and Brown as extras
Gunnarsson Phaneuf
Gardiner Franson
Liles Holzer
Komisarek
Reimer
Scrivens
Estimated at 4.25m in capspace |

ya, after the fact. Of course they are going to rag on him - they just traded him. They also stopped saying how much Schenn is over-rated
but at the trade deadline when the deal was being discussed, EVERY flyer fan on here was expecting Schenn + a 1st for JVR.

Kinda reminds me of a bigger, but slightly less talented/sneaky Cliff Ronning

Hopefully for Puempel, he stays healthy this year. A lot of talent on that Rangers team and if he finds a way to play 90% or more games, he could easily pot 40-45 this year. You'll get to see a lot more over-celebrations of goals then! - Lohaus
Just what I want in a Rangers uniform.
I'm intrigued by what Pederson might be able to do next season as well. |

I think the plan is to give Frattin a chance in the top 6. But really, Frattin,Kadri and Kulemin could all play anywhere from lines 2-4 at this point lol |

If both reach their full potential we won hand down, Two things scare me about that trade
1.) JVR's health, every time i think of oft injured soft americans i think of Tim Connolly
2.) Schenn only sucked cause Wilson didn't believe in defense. remember how good the kid looked out of the CHL, then wilson's coaching kicked in |

Moving Gunnarsson right now will rip a hole in the Leafs D the size of Texas.
At this point, they can't really move anymore Dmen comfortably. |

I believe yes, second line, this year wasn't great but I liked his numbers from year before, I like his size, and I really don't care. I like him more than Dubi. |

A pet peeve of mine: when Leafs fans say we'd have to "overpay" for a good player in a trade.
I look at this roster and see 12-14 easily expendable pieces, and a couple more who would make me think a little harder about moving them. We have just a few untouchables.
The team that gets the best player wins the trade. If I had to "overpay" for Ryan, Getzlaf, Duchene, Stastny, whomever... So be it.
Looking at the history of blockbusters in the NHL, the team that gets the star player has almost always won the deal. |

Well we are talking about 1st line centerman, neither berglund or dubinsky wow me but dubinsky can reach 60 pts with 20 goals iunno how berglund if playing the second line centerman cant acheive more than 50 pts or keep consistent like grabo given all those minutes... In my opinion both are crap, but i like how hes a big bodied centerman at 6'4 |
