Couts in the crease on PP#2. Schenn on the half boards with Read point/half boards and Briere behind around the net.
I guess if Mez gets his shot through it could be pretty good. - Marc D
11 goals and 39 assists in three seasons on ottawa's power play, averaging 3-4 mins of pp time/game. |

Is the Gervais thing a done deal?
I haven't heard the terms anywhere. |

The Flyers still have a very good team, even with the loss of the 3 players. But the fan base is going to want something big in the Season if it doesn't happen in the off season. And that normally will come down to the same thing. Overpaying. - MJL
I hope they, and am relatively sure they do, ignore the fan base when making these decisions.

Gervais had some nice production last year. 6 goals and 7 assists in 50 games while playing limited minutes isn't bad at all.
Gervais certainly provides more offensive ability than Lilja. He might not be a bad option on the third pairing. |

Nice, honest analysis, Bill. The more things change, the more they stay the same, regarding the strategy of screwing other teams in your division, rather than focusing on your own team needs. It doesn't usually end well. That being said, I go back to the Pronger deal, which at the time most agreed was wise only if it brought a Cup. It did not and has been a Cap disaster, for years now. Hard to understand the blind love for Homer and staff. - TJ

Pronger had a good track record of staying relatively healthy. The Flyers made the move for him to try and win a Cup. Should they have foreseen him getting his eye nearly poked out of his head? It was an unfortunate stroke a bad luck. It happens. - PLindbergh31
I am keeping my fingers crossed that Holmgren let Carle walk because he quietly heard good news from the Pronger camp. One can hope, right? |

Sure, you can hope, but I don't see it being very realistic.

It is more complicated then blind love for Homer + staff.
Most fans appreciate that they go for it, try to win every year, and max out the salaries doing so.
Otoh, most fans are also critical of their mistakes and dealings when appropriate.
Not really blind love.
Trading Carts and Richie took balls. I think most admire that kind of risk taking attitude.
I think he took a lot of criticism at the time for the Pronger deal, the big trades last summer, smaller mishaps such as the Gagne trade, the Carcillo deal and the penchant to throw away 2nd round picks to get other teams to take their salary dumps. The Jvr deal could certainly blow up in their face. |

As do I, but I doubt the Cialis/Ryan boner will be going away any time soon. |

Speaking of cap disasters, how's Brad $7.8 mil hit Richards doing? At least Pronger made it to the finals. |

Honestly. The only thing that bugs me out of all the things he's done is the Bryz signing. I realize that was probably 99% Snider, but still. He shoulda put his foot down on that one imo.

which isn't the end of the world, imo
there certainly appear to be holes now, but its a long season. a lot can change between now and april. i'm happy going in with what we have (largely, still could be little pickups obv) and seeing how the team meshes together. might not be ideal, but it's not horrible. certainly preferable to making a rash move just because the fan base wants to see something "big" in the offseason - FlyerMike18

A lot of money for too many years which can't be buried because Homer messed up on the 35 year old birthday rule. It hurts for sure. I thought it was worth the shot at the time because he appeared to be the missing leadership link. It just didn't work out. Now Richards is gone anyway. |

you'd think they learned something about these 10+ year contracts
maybe this year they are applying it, but the length of Bryz's deal is mind boggling |

True. With all due respect to LA, the best team in the league did not win the Cup this year. |

After Leighton fell on his face in the SCF in 2010, then the goaltending carousel in 2011, Flyers were desperate to solve the goaltending issues. A mandate came directly from Ed Snider.
The scary thing is, the Flyers have invested a fortune, and the issues may not have been solved. |
