@DarrenDreger: Carolina Hurricanes are no longer persuing Rick Nash. Cost way too high. CBJ believed to be after Jeff Skinner. Non-starter. - nastyflyergirl
howson is completely out of his mind and short of utter desperation from someone else, will never get what he wants because frankly, six years of rick nash (who everyone knows they HAVE to trade) at 7.8 mil doesn't have great trade value. |

But those guys all offered something else. Hextall stopped pucks, Upshall chipped in offensively and Carcillo kept the room light because he was so ugly. - canadianpenfan

What I love about Howson is that everyone says what he gets back for Nash will determine his professional future. That started 2 years ago, and in the meantime he has made that team way worse. Someone needs to take him and Feaster out back and put them out of their misery. |

To be fair, Eric Brewer was seen as a pretty hot commodity back then, and Woywitka and Lynch were supposed to be quality prospects. In hindsight, the deal was a total steal for the Oilers, but it could have swung the other way if the other players came anywhere close to meeting their potentials.
As far as the ANA-PHI Pronger deal, hindsight probably won't be as kind. Etem and Palmieri were really strong late 1st-round picks... the deal would look even worse if ANA hadn't turned around and pissed themselves by dealing Lupul + Gardiner for Beauchemin. - Tomahawk
I agree. I wasn't even looking at the end result of who the picks turned into, because that is a bit of a crapshoot.
But the Oilers gave up a great prospect and 2 solid prospects. Anaheim gave up 2 very good but not top prospects, a 1st and 2nd round pick, and a CONDITIONAL pick that turned into 1st round pick.
We gave up 2 solid but not top former 1st rounders in Lupul and Sbisa, 2 1st rounds and a 3rd.
That was a bigger package than Edmonton gave up and probably equal to Anaheim's for a much older pronger with only 1 year left on contract.
Vast overpayment in my mind. |

People will not remember he is only 22. We already saw that with the JVR bashing. People were constantly complaining about JVR as if he was a 27 year old 8 year veteran.
Same will happen with Schenn because a vocal portion of the Flyers fans in this town are idiots. - MBFlyerfan
They'll love him because he plays physical, Grossman makes mistakes too but that gets overlooked... |

out of curiosity, i took a peek at lad smid's numbers (since the pronger trades were being discussed) and it gives me hope for schenn. smid's numbers were absolutely dreadful (on an equally dreadful team) his first few years, but now he's turned himself into a damned fine stay-at-home second pair guy, who could probably be the defensive half of a top pair if he has someone decent alongside. |

Probably because it will take Couturier, Cousins OR a #1, AND a #2
EDIT: Sorry, misread this thinking you meant why has Homer traded for Ryan yet. |
