Well they did draft 4 defenseman. - MJL
But they may never see 2 of them (Fredrik Larsson & Valeri Vasiliev) |

we really have no choice - puckhead17
Well more than having no choice but to rely on him, I genuinely have faith in Bryzgalov. I can't legally drink still, so I guess I'm not that bitter of a Philly sports fan; I see the city's sports a little more objectively. Bryz comes from PHX to Philly (no media to stupid huge following media) +1, as a highly touted goaltender something thats been lacking for years +1. The offseason that we trade two cornerstones of our franchise, create some cap space and fill the team with youth and a future, and essentially say "Here are the keys Bryz". +1
Recipe for diaster if you ask me, especially with his loose screws in the noggin. But I have faith in his ability between the pipes. |

Bill, do you think after what we just saw Suter get Weber is now basically a lock to test the market? I see all these trade scenarios and it just seems like if he's gonna walk anyway, why give up the assets? |

I guess his adjustment period is over starting October
Hey Joe, were you surprised Carle wasn't jumped on by Detroit?
They are in worse shape than us on the back end |

So he is pretty good defensively then?
I would assume he will be playing on Couturier's wing?
Guessing the lineup shakes out something like this? Girroux still needing a winger... looks like it will end up being Voracek?
Hartnell-Giroux-_________
Simmonds-Briere-Schenn
Read-Couturier-Fedotenko
Wellwood-Talbot-Rinaldo
Schelley
Coburn-Grossman
Timonen-Schenn
Meszaros-Gervais
Lilja
Bryzgalov
Leighton
Do we kick the tires on Semin? - Flyers2821

I think we should wait it out. If want him, pay a kings ransom NEXT year and not rip up our roster. |

Yeah those screws in his head need tightening, yup, but this should be a more comfortable season for him, adjustment wise |

it's been illustrated ad nauseaum how he picked it up in the second half. Kinda his mo in Phoenix too.
I was surprised but technically he was if you still consider Yzerman a Redwing
I think the years were a deal breaker for them though (the wings). Otherwise not sure what their plans are. |

He posted numbers better than or as good as any other Flyers goalie who started over 40 games since Esche iirc. Wasn't a great season but all things considered I'd call the season far from a disaster like the generic sports media you mention. |

funny one, forgot for a minute about Yzerman
will be interesting to see, but I touched on this last night, almost every other team has a hole on their D if you peruse the rosters, some have slightly bigger one's, but almost all could use another guy, either in a puck moving or stay at home capacity |

I don't mind if some one gets their a$$ kicked once in a while, but that's just silly. If that happened in O&B, we'd never live it down. |

I wouldn't even consider the Flyers in "bad shape" in terms of D. I'd say above average. Having Timonen, Coburn, Meszy, and Grossman as a top 4 is pretty solid. Add a young, Schenn to the team (with coaching direction from one of Hatcher/Pronger), and he can largely effective this year. That #6 spot will be key, as the goal will be to not overextend Timonen's energy throughout the year.
All in all, the defense is more of a "given" than offense. I'm worried about offensive production. Losing JVR/Jagr and replacing with Fedotenko is not a solid move. Sure the younger guys can step up, but they all had amazing seasons last year to begin with. I don't expect much more out of Read/Coots. Schenn may have some room to improve, but I still see this team as another forward short of making noise. |

Don't know if you saw it but I posted a twitterversation I had with Tocchet. Told him to tell Homer to forget about Parise/Suter if anything get Weber. His reply... Weber is the guy. I think they let Carle go because A. he got offered too much anyway B. They have room left to make a move for Weber. |

Timmonen's health is a concern, if he's not the defenseman we are used to, or let's say misses long stretches then we have a problem, unless Schenn becomes a solid top 4 right away, (which is really the main concern), how long it takes him to improve & play like a projected top 4 guy
Jagr was a stopgap for a year to buy the kids time, I didn't see him staying another year & we shouldn't have banked on him doing so either. |

I think trade. That's just what I think though... perhaps Free agency next summer, I'd prefer that but not what I think they do. |
