someone pointed out the other day that an offer sheet can be a multi year deal, which is the only way it makes sense.
any offer sheet Weber signs will be matched by Nahville and then they have him locked up.
no team will offer sheet him for 1 year and forfeit all those 1st round picks for 1 year |

OK serious question.
Would a team that wanted to trade for Weber be allowed to talk with him first to see if they can reach a long term deal?
Otherwise you are just trading away half your team and first round picks for the privilege of having him for 1 year. - Marc D
Nashville would have to give the okay for that to happen, but to get them to be okay with that you may have to really sweeten the pot. |

Weber wants to play in a real hockey town. Trading a ton of assets for him shows him you want him bad, and that's usually reciprocated when the contract comes. How did we know Pronger would sign after his 1 year with us? We didn't, but we want to win and showed him we want him. If he comes here, there'd be no problem signing him long term. - eayost
no guarantee
suter told them he wanted to stay there also |

The author is an idiot. He says another team can sign Weber to an Offer Sheet, and the Preds match, they can't trade him. And then Weber can walk away as a Free Agent, at the end of the year. What is the Offer Sheet going to be for a one year deal? |

Nashville has said they'll match any offer sheet, it's a waste of time. Talks to this point haven't gone well to get anything done so why do their work that they can't get done for them? |

You just saw Suter sign for less money, with a franchise that doesn't offer him a chance to win (right away). If he was traded to the Flyers during the season would the Flyers had a chance to sign him? Suter said he had zero interest in playing in the Eastern Conf and he was true to his word.
My point is, Weber is going to pick where he wants to play. |

Hypothetically speaking, could Ryan and Weber be a possibility ? What a dream |

I dont think anyone will give an offer sheet, I think a trade is imminent, Nashville really has no leverage other than keeping him around for the year, which benefits no one involved. Get assets while you can for the guy. |

I guess it would depend on if Nashville allows another team to talk to the Weber camp.

Weber isn't Suter. And Weber has different wants about where he wants to play. What has Weber said he wants? And why doesn't Minnesota have a chance to win right away?

If Nashville can't sign him up long term they have to trade him.
But the team signing him only has him for 1 season, and then he is UFA.
After this summer, why would he pass up UFA where he can go where he wants and pretty much name the price?
Why would anyone give up a ton to get him for one year? |

Couldnt Weber just give a "list" like Nash did? Seems simple to me. I will only resign long-term at X,Y, or Z. Limits the market and gives him some control, not that Nashville has to honor that or anything, but I doubt other teams would throw the kitchen sink without being on the list no? |

You don't know what Suter would have done if he was with the Flyers organization for 30 games and gelled with the players that are here, and experienced the fans. |

i believe I do. From the Flyers perspective it appears to me that they want to maximize the cap at the start of the season and save the LTIR for Pronger for a deal at the deadline or when an opportunity presents itself.
You do understand that if the Flyers use LTIR, that 4.9M shrinks and gets smaller every day? - MJL

The Chief would do it during camp. Laviolette would wait until the trade deadline |

And no guarantee he is back after next year.

They were for whatever reason the top team in the NHL after 30 games or whatever last year. And they added Zach Parise. |

We have no idea where Weber wants to play. If he has his mind made up he only wants to play for Detroit, what is Nashville's options? What if Detroit isn't interested in trading for him? What does Nashville do?
The Flyers had the top offers out there for Suter, and Parise, and struck out on both guys. Why? What one player considers a contending team, another may not. |

He would pass up UFA because he was traded to a team that has a chance to win, tries to win every year, and will pay him what he wants to be paid.

He said he had zero interest in playing in the East. Conference, and turned down more money. I'm pretty sure I know what he would have done.
